Its closing scenes point toward new conflicts rather than settling them.
What happens at the end of Fallout Season 2?
Lucy dismantles the mainframe built around Representative Diane Welch’s severed head, then confronts Hank with the Ghoul’s help. Hank says the real experiment is already underway out in the Wasteland. Instead of letting Lucy decide whether to use the mind-control chip on him, he activates it on himself and wipes his memories.
After surviving a Deathclaw attack with help from the New California Republic, Maximus reunites with Lucy. At the Lucky 38, they see the Legion marching toward New Vegas. The story ends before any faction wins the city, making the approaching conflict a major unresolved thread.
Why does Hank erase his own memory?
Hank uses the chip he had intended for Lucy on himself, losing his memories, including his memories of her. Actor Kyle MacLachlan described the choice this way: “He took the decision away from Lucy having to make it.” The showrunner has also indicated that Lucy may not simply abandon her father despite what he has done. His self-erasure changes their relationship, but it does not resolve the consequences of his experiment.

Does Fallout Season 2 make a New Vegas ending canon?
No single ending from Fallout: New Vegas is definitively declared canon in the finale. Showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet says the series aimed to leave room for players’ different experiences rather than invalidate them. Executive producer Todd Howard describes the show’s approach as telling events from characters’ perspectives: “I think what we try to do is tell the story from the perspective of the people in the world, and sometimes you’re gonna get conflicting accounts.”
The series does add connective context about Robert House and cold fusion: Robertson-Dworet says House wanted the technology to power a version of himself uploaded beyond the limits of his deteriorating body. That detail may affect how viewers interpret events, but it does not settle every disputed game outcome. A claim that the show has confirmed one particular ending should be treated as interpretation, not an official answer.

Why is New Vegas becoming a battleground?
Robertson-Dworet says House’s missiles spared New Vegas from the worst of the bombs, leaving it unusually intact—a rare “crown jewel” that rival powers want. The Legion’s advance signals a renewed struggle for the city, with the showrunner identifying the Legion, the NCR and House as major forces in the contest. Her description of the setup is: “So we were excited to leave the Legion, the NCR and Robert House — which in the New Vegas game are three of the major factions — warring for territory in that area once again. War never changes.” The finale establishes the looming contest, not its victor.
What did Cooper’s cold-fusion decision change?
Robertson-Dworet says Cooper’s handoff of cold fusion to the Enclave accelerated the timeline toward the end of the world. The technology also connects to House’s plans for an uploaded version of himself. The showrunner poses the reverse-timeline idea as an open question—“If Coop could make the clock leap forward, is there any chance that he might be able to make the clock leap back?”—not as a confirmed ability. The finale does not establish that Cooper can undo the Great War.

Is Barb alive? Why is the Ghoul going to Colorado?
The Ghoul finds Barb’s cryopod empty, and a postcard points him toward Colorado. Robertson-Dworet confirms Colorado as his destination and says the next season will address why Barb was there or whether she moved. The postcard gives him a lead, not a reunion or proof that Barb survived. The sources also do not confirm whether Janey is alive.
Who is Stephanie, and what is Phase Two?
Stephanie is Hank’s wife and an Enclave operative. In the finale, she signals “initiate phase two” to a RobCo-run remote facility. The objective of Phase Two is not explained there. Robertson-Dworet says the Enclave plan and its relationship to the Forced Evolutionary Virus (FEV) will be explored in Season 3, describing that storyline as a major part of what is coming.

What is Liberty Prime Alpha?
The post-credits blueprint labels the Brotherhood’s robot project Liberty Prime Alpha. Robertson-Dworet says Quintus intends to find or build it, “whatever state it is in at this point,” but must first win his war. The tease does not confirm that the machine is complete, operational or deployed.
