Fallout Season 1 brings several familiar creatures from the games to the screen, but not every iconic wasteland monster makes a full appearance. Radroaches, a Yao Guai, Brahmin, a Gulper, feral ghouls, and deer/radstags are shown; a super mutant is only hinted at, while a Deathclaw appears as a skull. The series is a new story in the games’ shared universe, not a scene-by-scene adaptation of one title.
How the series relates to the games
Bethesda describes the television series as part of the same universe as its role-playing games. The games themselves explore different wastelands, shaped by their settings and eras, so familiar creatures can have regional or visual variations. Season 1 uses that shared world for a new story rather than recreating one game’s plot. Bethesda’s series announcement and its Season 1 retrospective provide the franchise context.
Which creatures appear in Season 1?
Radroaches
Lucy’s first encounter with a wasteland creature is a radroach. Its oversized insect shape and awkward flight closely resemble the game creature, making it one of the more direct screen-to-game translations.
Yao Guai
Yao Guai are mutated bears. The show emphasizes a scarred, patchy hide and a ferocious attack, even presenting the animal as a threat to someone wearing power armor. The creature retains the recognizable bear silhouette and dangerous role found in the games.

Brahmin
Brahmin are two-headed cattle used as livestock, rather than hostile monsters. The Brahmin seen near Filly has brown hide reminiscent of versions in Fallout 76; coloration varies across the games.
Deer and radstags
The deer shown on screen looks comparatively ordinary beside the mutated deer familiar from Fallout 4 and Fallout 76, where radstags are often two-headed. The adolescent version can also have two heads. That visual difference is a design departure noted by a contemporary comparison, not evidence of a production mistake.

Gulper
The Gulper is the season’s most conspicuous redesign. In the games, Gulpers are mutated salamanders introduced in Fallout 4’s Far Harbor expansion. The show’s West Coast creature has a different explanation: Vault 4 presents it as an experiment combining human traits with a radiation-resistant animal. Its salamander-like facial frills and human fingers where teeth would be make the hybrid design unmistakable. Framestore, which worked on the series’ visual effects, also describes the screen creature as mixing human and salamander features.
Feral ghouls
Feral ghouls attack as monsters, but they are not the only kind of ghoul in the setting. Bethesda describes ghouls as humans changed by radiation and chems; in the games, some retain their identities while others become feral. The Ghoul in the series remains intelligent and self-directed, unlike the feral attackers.

Which famous creatures are only hinted at?
Super mutants
Season 1 offers brief visual suggestions of a super mutant: a green-gray hand on a covered body and a wanted poster. These hints suggest that super mutants exist in the show’s world, but they do not amount to a full creature appearance or encounter.
Deathclaws
A Deathclaw skull appears at the season’s end. It is a tease of the creature, not a living Deathclaw on screen during Season 1. Counting the skull as a full appearance would overstate what the season shows.
