Qué se sabe sobre su fallecimiento
WSMV, en una nota publicada el 20 de febrero de 2026, y People en Español, en una publicada el 23 de febrero, indicaron que Bailey murió el 19 de febrero. Sin embargo, el anuncio de la NFHS del 21 de mayo de 2026 sitúa su fallecimiento el 17 de febrero. Las fuentes, por tanto, discrepan sobre la fecha exacta; no es posible resolver esa diferencia con la información publicada en esos reportes.
El reconocimiento póstumo de la NFHS
El 21 de mayo de 2026, la National Federation of State High School Associations anunció que Bailey recibiría póstumamente el premio nacional 2026 National High School Spirit of Sport Award. La distinción reconoce su espíritu deportivo y la influencia positiva que tuvo en su entorno.

El recuerdo de su comunidad
Wilson County Schools lo homenajeó como un héroe. WSMV recogió también las palabras de Bart Baker, portavoz del distrito, quien recordó su personalidad positiva incluso en medio de las dificultades: “The type of personality he had, even through everything that was going on, he was just so positive, such a light to everyone, including, myself.”
El relato de Bailey es el de un estudiante-atleta que permaneció conectado con el deporte y con las personas de su escuela mientras afrontaba una enfermedad grave. El premio nacional anunciado después de su muerte convirtió ese recuerdo comunitario en un reconocimiento de alcance nacional.
