The number is widely read as 10/10/97, a nod to the original Fallout role-playing game. That interpretation is popular, but the game’s exact release date is disputed, and no creator confirmation of the code’s intent is cited here.
What does 101097 mean in the Fallout finale?
The code Hank types is 101097. Read as a date in month-day-year format, it becomes October 10, 1997—the commonly reported interpretation linking the finale’s cold-fusion sequence to the first Fallout game. Looper’s account of the Easter egg makes that connection while also noting uncertainty about the game’s release date.
Was October 10, 1997, the original Fallout’s release date?
It is safer to describe 10/10/97 as the code’s widely reported reading and a reference to the original game, not as an undisputed release-date match. Accounts differ on when the PC game arrived: Looper reports that co-creator Tim Cain considers October 7 the exact date and describes a possible October 6–10 store window, while GameFAQs’ release information lists a US retail date of October 9, 1997. The available records therefore do not establish October 10 as the one definitive release date.
Has the show’s team confirmed the code is an intentional tribute?
The sources cited here do not include a statement from a showrunner, writer, or official production source confirming why 101097 was chosen. The connection to the first game is a common interpretation of the number, rather than a confirmed explanation from the creators.

The series is based on the video-game franchise, but it tells its own story. Co-showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet said the team did not want to copy one game’s plot: “We knew right from the start that we didn’t want to copy exactly one of the stories from the video games,” she told About Amazon. In that context, the code works as a compact nod to the games within a distinct television narrative.
Where can viewers explore the Fallout games?
Bethesda’s “Beyond the Show” page points viewers toward Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76 as ways to explore the wider franchise. Amazon describes the series as based on the game franchise and identifies Prime Video as its service; current availability can vary by territory, so check the service in your region.
