The video called the F1 The Movie teaser promotes Apple Original Films’ fictional Formula One drama starring Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes. Apple’s March 13, 2025 announcement called the newly released video a trailer; Apple’s U.S. movie page now lists separate teaser and trailer entries, each running about two minutes.
What the F1 The Movie teaser is about
Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) was Formula 1’s most promising phenom in the 1990s until a track accident nearly ended his career. Decades later, he works as a nomadic racer-for-hire.

His former teammate, Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), now owns the struggling APXGP team and asks Hayes to return to Formula 1. Hayes is paired with rookie Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), creating a volatile partnership as the team fights to survive and Hayes seeks redemption. APXGP, Hayes and Pearce are fictional elements of the feature’s story, not a documentary about a real F1 season.

Why the racing footage looks unusually authentic
The official film site says production filmed during actual Grand Prix weekends while the fictional team competed against the sport’s real competitors. Apple lists filming at Spa-Francorchamps, Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, Monza, Silverstone, Hungaroring, Suzuka, Zandvoort and Yas Marina during the 2023 and 2024 seasons, with additional work in Daytona Beach.
Apple also says Pitt and Idris drove real Formula 1 cars. In a Variety conversation quoted by Apple, Pitt said, “We ended up driving for about two years. I was told that we drove 6,000 miles in total in these cars.” That figure is Pitt’s reported account, not an independently audited production measurement.

- F1 THE MOVIE
Teaser or trailer: which term is correct?
Both labels appear in Apple’s current materials. Apple’s March 13, 2025 announcement described its newly unveiled video as the trailer, while the U.S. movie page separately lists a teaser and a trailer. “F1 movie teaser” and “Brad Pitt F1 trailer” can therefore refer to different cuts of the promotional campaign. Check the label on the Apple page or video player when looking for a specific version.
Quick Recap
What the teaser establishes—and what it does not
- It introduces a fictional F1 team, APXGP, and the Hayes–Pearce teammate conflict.
- It presents Hayes’s return as a redemption story after a career-ending accident nearly stopped him.
- It previews production built around real Grand Prix environments and real racing cars.
- It does not document an actual Formula 1 championship or present Hayes and Pearce as real drivers.
