Brad Pitt stars as veteran driver Sonny Hayes in F1 The Movie, with Damson Idris playing rookie teammate Joshua Pearce. They race for APXGP, a fictional Formula 1 team whose owner, engineers, board members and crew round out the film’s cast.
Lead drivers: Brad Pitt and Damson Idris
- Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes: A former Formula 1 prospect whose career was disrupted by a crash. Decades later, he is a racer for hire when he is recruited to help APXGP.
- Damson Idris as Joshua Pearce: APXGP’s rookie driver and Hayes’s teammate. Their partnership brings rivalry as well as a chance for the struggling team to improve.
The story follows the drivers within the real Formula 1 championship, but APXGP itself is fictional. Apple’s official film announcement describes Hayes’s return to the sport and the team’s effort to compete.

Formula 1’s cast guide also describes Hamilton’s involvement in preparing the drivers and shaping dialogue.

Apple’s 2024 cast announcement included Samson Kayo, but Formula 1’s later cast guide does not identify a character for him. The available role-by-role information therefore does not support assigning him a specific role.
