Lala the dog is not a contestant on The Traitors—but she may be the show’s most memorable unofficial style icon. The black mixed-breed rescue dog belongs to host Alan Cumming and regularly appears in the show’s theatrical hosting world, often lounging in an elaborate bed, wearing accessories, or joining Cumming in a coordinated look.
Her presence gives the Peacock reality competition a dose of comic calm: while Faithfuls and Traitors navigate suspicion, banishments, and murders, Lala appears to be enjoying the castle in unmistakably regal fashion.
Who is Lala the dog?
Lala is Alan Cumming’s real household dog. She was part of his life well before her appearances on The Traitors, and interviews and profiles have described her as a rescue dog. The most defensible current description is a black mixed-breed rescue dog.
An older interview described Lala as a collie-spaniel mix. That description can be attributed to the earlier interview, but it should not be treated as a definitive breed classification or DNA result. The available reporting does not establish a precise breed composition, birth date, age, weight, shelter name, or adoption date.

Cumming has also spoken about Lala’s personality. He has described her as patient, calm, obedient, and somewhat independent. She is especially attentive to him and can take time to warm up to other people—traits that help explain why her quiet appearances contrast so effectively with the show’s extravagant setting.
How did Lala become part of The Traitors?
Peacock formally highlighted Lala in its January 2024 promotion for Season 2, describing Alan Cumming as returning to host “alongside his dog Lala.” That wording established her place in the show’s hosting environment, not in the competition itself.
The U.S. version of The Traitors is a reality competition in which human contestants are divided into hidden roles. Faithfuls attempt to identify the Traitors, while the group builds a prize fund of up to $250,000. Cumming hosts from a Scottish castle, and Lala appears as part of the visual world surrounding him.
Peacock’s current U.S. listings report four available seasons, with Season 4 premiering on January 8, 2026. However, the available evidence does not establish that Lala appears in every season or every episode. Her involvement is clearly documented in Season 2 promotion, and additional appearances were widely noted during Season 3.
Why do viewers love her?
Lala’s appeal comes largely from the contrast she creates. The Traitors presents itself as a tense murder-mystery game filled with suspicion, dramatic reveals, and ceremonial language. Lala, by comparison, is often shown calmly occupying a bed or accompanying Cumming through a flamboyant hosting sequence.
That juxtaposition turns her into an unofficial comic sidekick. Entertainment coverage sometimes calls her a “co-host” or “sidekick,” but those are descriptive fan and media labels—not official job titles. Lala does not explain the rules, lead missions, vote at the Round Table, or participate in the strategy.

Her visibility grew particularly during Season 3, when coverage drew attention to her appearances alongside the season’s increasingly fashion-forward presentation. She became part of the show’s recurring visual joke: the castle may be full of deception, but Lala seems to have already secured the best seat.
Lala’s crown and custom styling
One of Lala’s most discussed appearances showed her wearing a crown. The accessory matched the series’ royal, exaggerated visual language and reinforced her image as the castle’s pampered sovereign. It did not have any game significance: Lala was not crowned a winner, and the accessory did not indicate a Faithful or Traitor role.
The styling was not entirely accidental. Fashionista reported that stylist Sam Spector worked with Cumming on his The Traitors wardrobe and helped create looks that sometimes coordinated with Lala. The Washington Post also reported that Spector sent custom-made options for the dog, describing Lala as having celebrity status within Cumming’s household.
That makes Lala’s wardrobe part of the show’s broader camp aesthetic rather than a random collection of pet costumes. Her accessories help extend Cumming’s theatrical hosting persona to the dog beside him.
If you want to recreate the general idea for a pet, a dog crown costume or simple crown accessory is the most obvious inspiration. It should never be presented as the item used on the show—the exact screen-worn accessory has not been verified. Any costume should fit comfortably, allow unrestricted breathing and movement, and be used only with supervision. Remove it immediately if a dog shows stress or discomfort.
Is Lala a contestant, Faithful, or Traitor?
No. Lala is Alan Cumming’s dog and a recurring on-screen companion. Peacock’s cast announcements distinguish Cumming as the host and list the human competitors separately.

Online jokes such as “Lala is the real star,” “Lala won,” or claims that she is secretly a Traitor are fan commentary. They are not literal descriptions of the show’s rules, results, or cast. Lala has no hidden role in the competition and does not receive a share of the prize fund.
Is Lala really Alan Cumming’s dog?
Yes. Lala is Cumming’s actual household dog, not a fictional character created for the series or an animal hired solely for television. Cumming discussed living with Lala before The Traitors made her recognizable to a larger audience. Earlier reporting also identified Lala and another dog, Jerry, as members of Cumming’s household.
Entertainment coverage has reported that Cumming maintains a Lala-focused social-media presence. Because social-media handles and account availability can change, that account is best treated as an additional way to follow her appearances—not as the sole authority for facts about her life.
What remains unknown about Lala?
The internet’s enthusiasm for Lala has produced plenty of speculation, but the strongest available reporting does not confirm several details. There is no reliable basis here for stating:

For viewers interested specifically in Lala, Season 2 is the clearest starting point because Peacock explicitly introduced her alongside Cumming in its promotion. Season 3 also received notable coverage for her recurring appearances and styling. The available information does not support promising a Lala appearance in every episode.
The real reason Lala works so well on the show
Lala is memorable because she does not need a dramatic storyline. Her role is visual and tonal: she softens the show’s intensity, amplifies Cumming’s camp sensibility, and gives viewers a recurring detail to look for between the betrayals and banishments.

Calling her an “unofficial style icon” is fair. Calling her an official co-host, contestant, Faithful, or Traitor is not. The distinction is part of the fun: Lala has become one of The Traitors’ most recognizable stars without ever having to play the game.
