November 2024 brought a broad U.S. lineup to Max: the HBO premieres Dune: Prophecy, Like Water for Chocolate, and Get Millie Black; Max titles including The Sex Lives of College Girls season 3 and Sweethearts; the A24 film Janet Planet; documentaries such as Surveilled and Night Is Not Eternal; holiday programming; Discovery-family series; and a substantial group of library movies.
This is the U.S. Max schedule for November 2024, reconstructed from Warner Bros. Discovery’s official monthly announcement and supplemented with HBO’s later announcement of James Acaster: Hecklers Welcome. WBD said its original list was not necessarily comprehensive and could change, so the most accurate description is the official announced schedule rather than a guarantee that every regional or episode-level addition is represented.
November’s biggest Max and HBO premieres
The month’s most prominent scripted additions were not all released in the same way. Some were films available immediately, while four major series used weekly episode rollouts.
| Title | Type and label | Arrival | Release pattern |
|---|---|---|---|
| Janet Planet | A24 film | Nov. 1 | Film available as a catalog addition |
| Like Water for Chocolate | HBO Original series | Nov. 3 | Six episodes, released weekly |
| Dune: Prophecy | HBO Original series | Nov. 17 | Six episodes, released weekly on Sundays |
| Watchmen: Chapter I | Animated feature | Nov. 18 | Film |
| The Sex Lives of College Girls, season 3 | Max Original series | Nov. 21 | Ten episodes, one new episode weekly |
| James Acaster: Hecklers Welcome | HBO Original comedy special | Nov. 23 | Special; later-added announcement |
| Get Millie Black | HBO Original limited series | Nov. 25 | Five episodes, released weekly |
| Sweethearts | Max Original film | Nov. 28 | Film |
Like Water for Chocolate, the Spanish-language adaptation of Laura Esquivel’s novel, debuted on HBO Latino in the United States and streamed on Max at the same time. Warner Bros. Discovery described it as a six-episode HBO Original with new episodes arriving weekly.

HBO announced the comedy special on Nov. 12 for a Nov. 23 debut at 10 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and Max. It was absent from the initial monthly calendar, so it should be treated as a subsequent addition rather than part of WBD’s first announcement. Read HBO’s announcement.
Documentaries that arrived in November
For documentary viewers, November’s most substantial additions were a mix of HBO documentaries, CNN Films, documentary series, and music or political programs.

Movies and documentary films by date
In streaming terms, “new movies” means movies newly added to Max, not necessarily movies newly released in 2024. The large Nov. 1 group was primarily older licensed or library programming. Janet Planet was the notable recent A24 addition.

Series and seasons arriving by date
Max’s November calendar was not limited to HBO and Max-branded scripted shows. It also carried programming from Discovery, Food Network, HGTV, Investigation Discovery, Adult Swim, OWN, TLC, Magnolia Network, CNN, and other Warner Bros. Discovery brands. | Nov. 27 | Good Bones, season 9 | HGTV |
| Nov. 28 | Mysteries of the Abandoned, season 11 | Discovery |
| Nov. 28 | Second Chance Stage | Max Original series by Magnolia Network |
Two schedule details deserve attention: WBD listed Mysteries of the Abandoned season 11 on both Nov. 21 and Nov. 28. The monthly calendar also listed individual installments rather than only full seasons in several places. Those entries are reproduced as announced rather than silently corrected.
Specials, individual episodes, and Yule Logs
Not every line in Max’s monthly schedule represented a film or a complete season.

Individual episodes
- Nov. 2: Cleats & Convos, episode 104
- Nov. 6: Fareed Zakaria Documentaries, episodes 201–204
- Nov. 9: Cleats & Convos, episode 106
- Nov. 16: Cleats & Convos, episode 107
- Nov. 20: Fareed Zakaria Documentaries, episode 205
- Nov. 30: Cleats & Convos, episode 108
Episode 105 of Cleats & Convos was not listed in WBD’s November calendar. That does not establish that it was unavailable; it means only that the official monthly list named episodes 104, 106, 107, and 108.
November 14 holiday and ambient programming
- A Very Merry Rickmas Yule Log
- Calcifer Yule Log
- Harry Potter: Fireplace
- Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking, season 1
- The Dog House: UK, season 5 Christmas Special
The Yule Logs are ambient holiday viewing rather than conventional narrative movies or series. They were nevertheless part of the official Max programming calendar and are worth separating from the rest of the month’s entertainment additions.
Best movie picks from the November catalog additions
The strongest choice depends on what you want to watch, but the November 1 library drop offered several clear entry points:
- Prestige and critically oriented: Janet Planet, Another Earth, The Full Monty, Unforgiven, and Goodfellas.
- Holiday viewing: A Christmas Carol, A Christmas Story, Elf, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and The Polar Express.
- Franchise viewing: Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park III, The Addams Family 2, and the animated Watchmen: Chapter I.
- Mainstream comedies and dramas: The Hangover, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, He’s Just Not That Into You, Unstoppable, and Big Miracle.
The important distinction is that these were mostly older movies becoming available in the Max catalog. They should not be presented as November 2024 theatrical releases or as Max Originals.
Live sports on Max
The official November announcement also included Bleacher Report sports programming, but those listings belong in a separate category from Max’s movies, series, and documentaries. The announced sports slate included NBA, NHL, college basketball, Mountain West football, U.S. men’s and women’s national soccer matches, MotoGP, endurance racing, cycling, and triathlon.
Examples listed for the month included NBA games on Nov. 12, 19, and 26; NHL games throughout November, including a Thanksgiving Showdown on Nov. 29; MotoGP’s Malaysian Grand Prix and Valencia event; and FIA World Endurance Championship racing from Bahrain. WBD cautioned that sports listings could change and that some telecasts might not be available in a subscriber’s local market. Consult the official November schedule for the sports details rather than treating this entertainment calendar as a complete local sports guide.

What the dates and labels mean
New to Max does not mean newly released
Max’s November schedule combined new platform arrivals with recent films, older classics, licensed programming, HBO premieres, Max Originals, and shows that had already debuted on a Warner Bros. Discovery television network. A title such as Goodfellas or Elf was a catalog addition, while Sweethearts was a new Max Original film. The distinction matters if you are looking specifically for first-run movies or original productions.
Weekly shows were not complete on day one
The four key weekly rollouts were:
- Like Water for Chocolate — began Nov. 3 and released new episodes weekly.
- Dune: Prophecy — began Nov. 17 and released six episodes weekly on Sundays.
- The Sex Lives of College Girls season 3 — began Nov. 21, with one episode weekly through Jan. 23, 2025.
- Get Millie Black — began Nov. 25 and released its five episodes weekly.
For HBO programming, Max generally makes new HBO shows and movies available when they air on HBO, although the exact availability pattern can vary by title. Max’s support guidance says some titles may arrive separately or within approximately 24 hours. The official premiere times supplied for particular November titles—such as 9 p.m. ET/PT for Dune: Prophecy, Night Is Not Eternal, Surveilled, and Music Box: Yacht Rock: A Dockumentary—should not be generalized into a precise midnight or 3 a.m. streaming time for every catalog addition.

In the United States, the service was branded Max in November 2024. Some Warner Bros. Discovery pressroom pages use an HBO Max taxonomy label because of legacy site structure; that does not mean the U.S. service had reverted to the HBO Max name.
U.S. availability and international differences
This calendar is specifically for the United States. Max catalogs depend on geography, licensing, and sometimes local broadcast arrangements. Max’s own availability guidance says the shows and movies available can change when a subscriber travels to another country.
Do not combine this list with Max’s Southeast Asian launch schedule. Max launched in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, and Hong Kong on Nov. 19, 2024, but those markets had different catalogs and featured premieres. Warner Bros. Discovery’s regional launch announcement covers that separate rollout.
Source and schedule caveat
The primary source for the dated calendar is Warner Bros. Discovery’s official U.S. Max programming release for November 2024. WBD explicitly described the list as subject to change and not necessarily comprehensive. This reconstruction adds James Acaster: Hecklers Welcome from HBO’s later Nov. 12 announcement, but it should still not be read as proof that no other episode, special, licensed movie, or regional addition appeared during the month.

That qualification also explains the unusual entries: repeated listings for Mysteries of the Abandoned, episode-level listings for Cleats & Convos and Fareed Zakaria Documentaries, and holiday Yule Logs all appear because the official calendar included them. They are not interchangeable with full-season premieres or new feature films.
Frequently Asked Questions
Was all of this programming available outside the United States?
No. This is the U.S. Max schedule. Max availability and catalogs varied by country, and the November 2024 Southeast Asian launch had a different lineup.
Which November 2024 Max shows were released weekly?
Like Water for Chocolate, Dune: Prophecy, The Sex Lives of College Girls season 3, and Get Millie Black all used weekly episode rollouts rather than releasing their complete seasons on premiere day.
Was James Acaster: Hecklers Welcome in the original Max November schedule?
No. HBO announced the special on Nov. 12 for its Nov. 23 HBO and Max debut, so it was a later addition to the initial monthly calendar.
Were the November 1 movies new releases?
Mostly no. The November 1 group consisted primarily of older films newly added to the Max catalog. Janet Planet was the notable recent A24 addition; the movies should not generally be described as Max Originals.
The Bottom Line
For U.S. subscribers, Max’s November 2024 highlights were Janet Planet, Like Water for Chocolate, Dune: Prophecy, The Sex Lives of College Girls season 3, Get Millie Black, and Sweethearts. Documentary viewers also had Call Me Ted, Carville: Winning Is Everything, Stupid, Night Is Not Eternal, Surveilled, and Music Box: Yacht Rock: A Dockumentary. Because the official list was subject to change and not necessarily comprehensive, this is best understood as the announced U.S. schedule, updated with the later Acaster special—not an absolute record of every regional or episode-level availability change.
