Apple’s confirmed October 2026 film slate currently contains two releases: Matchbox The Movie, arriving globally on Apple TV on October 9, and Tenzing, opening in select theaters that day before streaming on Apple TV on October 16.
That means October is currently centered on two very different kinds of adventure: a globe-trotting spy story inspired by the Matchbox toy line, and a historical mountaineering drama about Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary. Apple’s official October listing showed these two films and no separately listed October 2026 series premiere as of August 12, 2026.

Matchbox The Movie — October 9, 2026
Matchbox The Movie premieres globally on Apple TV on October 9, 2026. The film is an action-packed, globe-spanning adventure inspired by Mattel’s Matchbox toys. It is not described as an adaptation of a particular existing Matchbox storyline; the toy line supplies the film’s central brand inspiration.

The story follows childhood friends whose lives are disrupted when Sean, played by John Cena, returns to their small town. Sean reveals that he is an undercover CIA agent, pulling the group into an international pursuit with stakes that involve saving the world.
The announced cast also includes Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris, Arturo Castro, Corey Stoll, Bill Camp, Danai Gurira, and Golshifteh Farahani. Sam Hargrave directs, while David Coggeshall wrote the screenplay. The film is produced by Skydance Media and Mattel Films in association with Apple Original Films. These details come from Apple’s 2026 slate announcement.
For families or collectors interested in the brand behind the film, Matchbox toy cars are the most direct companion purchase. They connect to the movie’s stated toy roots, but there is currently no verified announcement here of a movie-specific Matchbox product line. Any Matchbox cars or vehicle playsets should therefore be treated as related toys, not official film merchandise unless Mattel or an authorized retailer confirms otherwise.
What kind of movie is it?
Although its source of inspiration is a toy brand, Apple presents Matchbox The Movie as an action adventure rather than specifically as a children’s film. Parents deciding whether to watch with younger viewers should look for a final age rating and content guidance closer to release.

Tenzing — October 9 in theaters, October 16 on Apple TV
Tenzing has two separate October dates: it opens in select theaters on October 9, 2026, then premieres on Apple TV on October 16, 2026. The theatrical date is not the streaming date.
Directed by Jennifer Peedom, the film is based on true events and follows Himalayan climber Tenzing Norgay, played by Genden Phuntsok, and his partnership with New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary, played by Tom Hiddleston. Apple’s official film page centers on the effort to persuade expedition secretary Jill Henderson and Colonel John Hunt that Tenzing should join the British climbing team as a climber rather than merely serve it.
The film also places the expedition in a wider cultural and political context. Its synopsis emphasizes the cultural and spiritual importance of Chomolungma—the name used for Mount Everest—and the tensions surrounding background, class, empire, and ambition. That makes Tenzing more than a straightforward survival or summit story: it is also concerned with who receives recognition, who is permitted to lead, and how Himalayan knowledge is treated within a British expedition.

Rating and runtime
Apple’s U.S. listing describes Tenzing as a two-hour, five-minute drama/adventure rated PG for thematic elements, language, smoking, and some peril. Ratings and availability can vary by territory, so viewers outside the United States should check their local Apple listing.
What to read after watching
Viewers who want more historical context could look for a Tenzing Norgay biography or an Everest history book after seeing the film. Those are supplemental reading suggestions, not announced official movie tie-ins. A broader mountaineering guidebook may also appeal to outdoor-history readers, although it is less directly connected to the film than a biography or expedition history.
Are there any other Apple TV October 2026 premieres?
Based on Apple’s official October filter checked on August 12, 2026, no additional October 2026 series premiere was separately listed. The two confirmed October films are Matchbox The Movie and Tenzing.

Apple’s broader 2026 announcement places Mayday on September 4, 2026, while Way of the Warrior Kid is scheduled for November 20, 2026. Those dates leave the two films above as the currently confirmed October releases relevant to this roundup, although Apple may add or adjust titles before the month begins.
Which October release should you watch first?
- Choose Matchbox The Movie if you want a fast-moving spy adventure, a large ensemble cast, and a modern action story built around the Matchbox brand.
- Choose Tenzing if you prefer true-event dramas, mountaineering history, Everest stories, or films examining colonial power and recognition alongside physical danger.
- Plan for the theater if you want to see Tenzing on its initial October 9 release, since Apple describes that opening as limited to select theaters.
- Wait for Apple TV if you want to watch Tenzing at home; its listed streaming premiere is October 16.
What is still unconfirmed?
The current announcement does not establish a movie-branded Matchbox toy range, a specific biography or history-book tie-in, or identical availability in every country. It also does not make Matchbox The Movie a children’s movie simply because it is inspired by toys. Final ratings, regional theater listings, and any added October announcements should be verified nearer to release.
