The relationships, in context
David Cruz: Lopez’s high-school sweetheart
Cruz was described in biographical timelines as Lopez’s longtime boyfriend from her school years. Published accounts generally place the relationship’s end sometime in the mid-1990s, but do not establish one definitive breakup date.
Ojani Noa: first husband
Lopez married producer and restaurateur Ojani Noa in February 1997. The marriage lasted roughly 11 months, and their divorce was completed the following year.

Sean “Diddy” Combs: the late-1990s relationship
Lopez and Combs met while working on her “If You Had My Love” video. They dated for about two years. Lopez later discussed allegations of infidelity in a 2003 Vibe interview; those statements are presented as her account, not as independently established findings.
Cris Judd: second marriage
Lopez met dancer Cris Judd while working on the “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” video. They married in 2001 and divorced in 2003.
Ben Affleck: the first “Bennifer” era
Lopez and Affleck met while making Gigli. Their highly visible relationship included a planned 2003 wedding that was postponed and ultimately abandoned before their separation. Lopez later told Time, “I love Ben, he’s a great guy, but it was a lot for both of us to be under that type of siege for two years straight,” describing the pressure of constant coverage.
Marc Anthony: marriage and twins
Lopez and singer Marc Anthony had known each other professionally before marrying in June 2004. They announced their separation in 2011 and share twins, born in 2008. Their divorce process concluded later, making this Lopez’s longest marriage in the documented timeline.
Casper Smart: a long-term, on-and-off partnership
Smart, a dancer and choreographer, became Lopez’s partner during the period surrounding her separation from Anthony. Accounts differ over the exact starts, pauses and reunions, so the relationship is best treated as a long-term partnership with approximate boundaries rather than one clean continuous interval.
Alex Rodriguez: fiancé, not husband
Lopez and former baseball player Alex Rodriguez began dating in 2017 and became engaged in 2019. They ended the relationship in 2021 without marrying, so Rodriguez was a fiancé, not one of Lopez’s husbands.
Ben Affleck: the 2021 reunion and marriage
Lopez and Affleck rekindled their relationship in 2021 and publicly confirmed the reunion that summer. They married in 2022. Lopez filed for divorce in 2024 after two years of marriage; the status of the legal proceedings can change and should be checked against the latest court reporting.

What the timeline does—and does not—establish
- Marriage dates, announced separations and the Rodriguez engagement are more firmly documented than the endpoints of Lopez’s earliest relationship.
- Cruz’s relationship is generally dated by life stage, not by a precise public record.
- Smart’s relationship is commonly described as intermittent, so exact start and end dates should not be presented as settled facts.
- The chronology excludes rumor-only names that lack reliable, clearly attributed reporting.
