Short answer: Baryon Mode is Naruto Uzumaki’s strongest form in immediate combat. It gave him the greatest temporary increase in speed, strength, and reaction ability, and its lifespan-draining effect allowed him to turn the battle against Isshiki Otsutsuki. Naruto’s strongest sustainable peak is the combination of Six Paths Sage Mode and Kurama Link Mode.
This ranking covers Naruto’s principal combat forms across the main Naruto, Naruto Shippuden, and Boruto continuity. It ranks peak combat performance—not convenience, stamina, or how often Naruto could safely use a form—and includes major composite states separately. Spoiler warning: the list discusses major transformations and late-series battles.

How Naruto’s forms are ranked
Naruto’s transformations do not all represent the same kind of power. Some multiply his physical abilities, some expand his chakra supply, some improve sensing and technique, and others are dangerous eruptions that offer enormous destructive force at the cost of control.
The ranking weighs five factors:
- Peak combat output: how much force, speed, and destructive power the form can produce.
- Performance against elite opponents: especially enemies such as Pain, Madara, Obito, and Isshiki.
- Versatility: access to sensing, ranged attacks, chakra arms, tailed-beast techniques, flight, and enhanced ninjutsu.
- Durability and reserves: how long Naruto can fight and how well the form sustains damage.
- Control: whether Naruto can make deliberate tactical decisions rather than simply unleash more chakra.
Control affects a form’s usefulness, but it does not automatically outweigh raw power. That is why Baryon Mode ranks first despite its devastating cost and extremely short operating window.

What is included—and what is not
This is a ranking of Naruto’s major canonical combat states. It excludes game-exclusive transformations, alternate-universe versions such as Road to Ninja’s Menma, cosmetic costumes, and ordinary techniques that do not constitute a transformation. A technique such as Sage Art: Super Big-Ball Rasengan is not listed separately.
Composite forms are ranked separately when Naruto demonstrably combines two power systems in battle. Sage Mode with Kurama Link Mode, for example, is treated as its own entry rather than being folded into either form individually.
Common fan labels such as KCM1 and KCM2 are included for clarity, but official material more often uses names such as Nine-Tails’ Chakra Mode and Kurama Link Mode. The one-, four-, six-, and eight-tail states are best understood as escalating stages of an uncontrolled Nine-Tails transformation rather than perfectly standardized forms.
Quick ranking: Naruto’s forms from weakest to strongest
| Rank | Form | Defining advantage |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Baryon Mode | Extreme short-term physical boost and lifespan-draining contact |
| 2 | Six Paths Sage Mode + Kurama Link Mode | Naruto’s strongest conventional combination of Six Paths power and Kurama’s chakra |
| 3 | Six Paths Sage Mode | Six Paths-enhanced sensing, ninjutsu, mobility, and battlefield power |
| 4 | Sage Mode + Kurama Link Mode | Natural energy combined with controlled Nine-Tails chakra |
| 5 | Kurama Link Mode with full Kurama transformation | Complete cooperation and full battlefield-scale Nine-Tails power |
| 6 | Nine-Tails Chakra Mode | Controlled access to Kurama’s chakra before full partnership |
| 7 | Sage Mode | Natural-energy enhancement, exceptional sensing, and high-impact techniques |
| 8 | Eight-tail transformation | Huge destructive output, but almost no dependable control |
| 9 | Six-tail transformation | Greater raw power than earlier cloaks, with severe loss of judgment |
| 10 | Four-tail transformation | Massive physical power and corrosive Nine-Tails chakra |
| 11 | One-tail chakra cloak | First major burst of Nine-Tails-enhanced speed, strength, and healing |
| 12 | Base Naruto | Exceptional technique and stamina without an active transformation |
1. Baryon Mode
Baryon Mode is Naruto’s strongest demonstrated form for immediate combat. It is not simply Naruto borrowing more of Kurama’s chakra. Naruto and Kurama’s chakra are fused to create a new form of energy, producing an extraordinary increase in physical strength, speed, reflexes, and reaction time.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Its most decisive ability is more unusual than a conventional power increase: physical contact with Naruto consumes the opponent’s remaining lifespan. Against Isshiki Otsutsuki, even brief exchanges became strategically important because every successful contact reduced the time Isshiki had left to live. Naruto could finally pressure an opponent who had previously overwhelmed his earlier peak abilities.
The drawback is absolute. Baryon Mode consumes life force as it operates, making it impossible to sustain like Sage Mode or Kurama Link Mode. In the Isshiki battle, Kurama ultimately paid the fatal price rather than Naruto. That cost prevents Baryon Mode from being Naruto’s best all-purpose state, but the question here is strength at its peak. No other demonstrated Naruto form created the same short-term advantage against such a powerful opponent.
Why it ranks first: unmatched temporary speed and physical output, plus a contact effect that directly shortens an opponent’s life. Its duration, life cost, and limited repeatability are the reasons it is not the most practical form—not reasons to deny its top position.
2. Six Paths Sage Mode combined with Kurama Link Mode
This is Naruto’s strongest conventional war- and adult-era combat profile: Hagoromo’s Six Paths power working together with Kurama’s complete cooperation.

Six Paths enhancement gives Naruto access to abilities far beyond ordinary shinobi techniques. Combined with Kurama Link Mode, it provides enormous chakra reserves, tailed-beast chakra, extreme sensory perception, aerial mobility in the relevant battles, Truth-Seeking Balls, enhanced ninjutsu, and enormous Rasengan and tailed-beast attacks. Naruto can fight on a massive battlefield while simultaneously creating clones, sensing threats, changing position, and launching attacks from multiple directions.
The official retrospective material presents Naruto receiving Hagoromo’s power, returning from the brink of death, and then fighting Madara with abilities that transcend normal shinobi techniques. The key point is that this is not merely a stronger orange chakra cloak. It is the interaction of two exceptional power sources: Six Paths power and a mature partnership with the Nine-Tails.
Why it ranks second: it is vastly more versatile and sustainable than Baryon Mode and can support an extended high-level battle. It ranks below Baryon Mode only because Baryon produced a more extreme short-term physical advantage.
3. Six Paths Sage Mode
Six Paths Sage Mode is the power Naruto receives from Hagoromo during the Fourth Great Ninja War. It should not be treated as a simple upgrade to the Sage Mode Naruto learned at Mount Myoboku. Its source, sensory abilities, chakra quality, and battlefield scale place it in a much higher category.

With Six Paths power, Naruto can perceive threats at an extraordinary level, use Six Paths-enhanced ninjutsu, move through the air in the relevant combat context, and contend with enemies connected to the Ten-Tails and the highest levels of the war. Truth-Seeking Balls and the ability to combine enormous quantities of chakra with highly refined techniques make this state exceptionally difficult to counter.
This entry is separated from the second-ranked combination for ranking clarity. In many discussions, “Six Paths Naruto” refers to Naruto using Six Paths power and Kurama Link Mode at the same time. Here, the second entry receives credit for both systems, while this entry isolates the Six Paths component rather than automatically granting it every Kurama-based advantage.
Why it ranks third: it is dramatically beyond Naruto’s earlier Sage Mode and ordinary Nine-Tails forms, but the combined Six Paths-and-Kurama state represents a fuller version of Naruto’s peak conventional arsenal.
4. Sage Mode combined with Kurama Link Mode
This composite form combines natural energy with Kurama’s chakra and cooperation. Sage Mode improves Naruto’s physical power, striking force, sensory perception, durability, and tactical awareness, while Kurama Link Mode supplies speed, chakra arms, enormous reserves, healing capacity, and access to tailed-beast techniques.
The result is one of Naruto’s most balanced forms. He can sense hidden enemies, fight at close range, launch attacks across a battlefield, create large numbers of shadow clones, and keep operating after damage that would stop most shinobi. Natural energy also gives his attacks a different quality from those powered only by Kurama’s chakra.
Official war-arc material places Naruto’s deeper bond with Kurama at the center of Kurama Link Mode and shows the form being used against transformed jinchuriki and Obito. The addition of Sage Mode makes that partnership even more dangerous without requiring the higher Six Paths enhancement.
Why it ranks fourth: it offers an outstanding combination of offense, defense, sensing, mobility, and endurance. It falls below Six Paths Naruto because it lacks the latter’s higher-tier Six Paths abilities.
5. Kurama Link Mode with full Kurama transformation
After Naruto and Kurama become true partners, Naruto can synchronize with the Nine-Tails and manifest the complete tailed-beast form rather than merely wearing a chakra cloak. This is the point at which Kurama’s battlefield-scale power becomes a coordinated extension of Naruto’s own combat ability.
That distinction matters. Earlier Nine-Tails states are driven by Naruto taking or releasing Kurama’s chakra while the beast resists him. In Kurama Link Mode, Naruto and Kurama can act together. Naruto can use chakra arms, massive tailed-beast attacks, and high-speed movement while retaining tactical purpose instead of being swallowed by rage.
Official retrospective material shows Naruto and Kurama fighting together against multiple transformed jinchuriki and countering several tailed-beast attacks. Official material also uses the term Kurama Link Mode for Naruto’s battle appearance against Momoshiki.
Why it ranks fifth: full cooperation unlocks a tremendous improvement in scale, coordination, and endurance. It ranks below the Sage Mode combination because natural energy adds another major enhancement to Naruto’s physical and sensory abilities.
6. Nine-Tails Chakra Mode
Nine-Tails Chakra Mode is the first controlled form Naruto gains after confronting and overcoming Kurama’s hatred. It allows him to draw on the Nine-Tails’ chakra without immediately becoming a feral, destructive manifestation.

Rank #3
This mode gives Naruto extraordinary speed, stamina, healing, chakra arms, sensory ability, and access to large-scale tailed-beast techniques. It also changes how he fights: Naruto can use his clones and signature techniques at a much greater scale while moving quickly enough to influence battles across a wide area.
However, this is not yet the complete partnership seen later. Naruto can access Kurama’s power, but he does not yet possess the same level of mutual trust and synchronization. The result is powerful but incomplete.
Why it ranks sixth: it is one of the largest improvements in Naruto’s career, but the later Kurama Link Mode combines similar power with full cooperation, better coordination, and a complete transformation.
7. Sage Mode
Naruto’s ordinary Sage Mode is based on natural energy gathered through his training at Mount Myoboku. He must remain still while absorbing nature energy, and the finished form is marked by the characteristic pigmentation around his eyes.

Sage Mode upgrades nearly every part of Naruto’s close-quarters fighting. It enhances strength, speed, durability, perception, and striking power. It also gives him a superior sensory range and enables techniques such as Frog Kumite, Sage Art: Giant Rasengan, and Sage-enhanced Wind Style: Rasen Shuriken.
Its importance is demonstrated during the Pain invasion. Sage Mode transformed Naruto from a powerful but inconsistent young shinobi into someone capable of defeating multiple Paths of Pain and making effective tactical decisions under extreme pressure. He could identify threats, exploit weaknesses, and use the environment in ways that were not possible in his earlier forms.
The limitations are significant. Naruto has a finite supply of gathered natural energy, and maintaining the form requires careful timing or assistance from shadow clones. It also lacks the vast reserves, tailed-beast attacks, and speed of his later Kurama-based modes.
Why it ranks seventh: Sage Mode is one of Naruto’s most important and well-rounded transformations, but the later controlled Nine-Tails states operate on a much larger scale.

For readers who collect anime memorabilia, a Naruto Sage Mode action figure is a straightforward way to represent this specific point in his evolution. One official Bandai listing describes an approximately five-inch figure with 27 points of articulation, while S.H.Figuarts has also documented a Naruto Uzumaki [Sage Mode] figure designed around the form’s appearance. Product availability and retailer terms can vary.
8. Eight-tail transformation
The eight-tail transformation appears during Naruto’s battle with Pain after his emotional limits are pushed beyond the point where he can maintain control. Kurama’s chakra erupts into a massive, destructive manifestation that approaches the full Nine-Tails.
Its raw output is enormous. Naruto gains overwhelming physical force, extreme durability, rapid regeneration, and highly destructive chakra. The form can inflict damage on a scale far beyond the one- and four-tail stages.
Its weakness is that it is not really a dependable Naruto-controlled mode. Naruto’s judgment is suppressed, his aggression takes over, and the transformation moves him toward the danger of complete possession by the Nine-Tails. It is therefore less useful in a tactical fight than forms with lower raw output but much greater control.

Rank #4
9. Six-tail transformation
The six-tail state is another escalation of Kurama’s chakra during the Pain battle. Naruto’s body becomes increasingly covered by the Nine-Tails’ chakra, his physical power rises sharply, and his regenerative ability becomes more pronounced.
At this stage, Naruto is no longer fighting with normal judgment. The chakra is corrosive and aggressive, and the transformation is driven by emotional crisis rather than deliberate activation. That makes the form dangerous to enemies and to Naruto himself.
Why it ranks ninth: it is stronger than Naruto’s earlier cloaks and partial releases in raw physical terms, but it remains an uncontrolled rage state. Its approximate placement reflects the escalation portrayed in the story rather than a precise numerical measurement of every tail.
10. Four-tail transformation
Naruto’s four-tail transformation is most prominently shown during his encounter with Orochimaru. Naruto releases a much larger portion of the Nine-Tails’ power, and the resulting chakra cloak becomes so dangerous that Yamato recognizes the fourth tail and recalls Jiraiya’s warning about how close Naruto had come to dying in that condition.
The form grants tremendous strength, speed, durability, healing, and destructive chakra. Its cloak is also highly corrosive, making close contact dangerous. Naruto can overwhelm opponents through sheer force, but he cannot use the form with the precision of his later modes.
Why it ranks tenth: the four-tail state is far more destructive than the one-tail cloak, but it is almost entirely uncontrolled. The later six- and eight-tail stages surpass it in raw output, while the controlled modes surpass it in both power and usefulness.
11. One-tail chakra cloak
The one-tail chakra cloak is Naruto’s first visibly advanced Nine-Tails state. Under extreme emotional pressure, he draws on Kurama’s chakra and gains a marked increase in speed, strength, durability, healing, aggression, and resilience.
It is a substantial upgrade over base Naruto and helps him survive and compete in battles against opponents above his normal level. The chakra cloak also allows Naruto to attack with greater physical force and recover from injuries more quickly.
But this is still an uncontrolled and relatively shallow use of Kurama’s power. Naruto has neither the precision of Nine-Tails Chakra Mode nor the partnership that later makes Kurama Link Mode so effective.
Why it ranks eleventh: it is much stronger than base Naruto, but its limited access to Kurama’s power and poor control place it below every later form.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.12. Base Naruto
Base Naruto is his ordinary shinobi state without active Sage Mode, a Nine-Tails chakra cloak, Six Paths power, or Baryon Mode. It ranks last here because every other entry represents a major enhancement to his physical abilities or chakra access.

Base Naruto is also the state that makes his other forms dangerous. His ability to create clones, gather information, improvise combinations, and remain committed under pressure allows him to exploit the power each transformation provides.
Why it ranks twelfth: it has Naruto’s complete skill set but the lowest peak physical output of the major combat states on this list.
Why the middle of the ranking is debatable
The top of the list is comparatively clear: Baryon Mode has the highest short-term combat advantage, while Six Paths power combined with Kurama Link Mode is Naruto’s strongest conventional form. The lower end is also straightforward because the one-, four-, six-, and eight-tail manifestations represent progressively greater releases of uncontrolled Nine-Tails chakra.

A reader could reasonably move Sage Mode above Nine-Tails Chakra Mode if emphasizing tactical reliability, or place the eight-tail state higher if ranking only destructive output. This list keeps the controlled modes above the uncontrolled tail stages because a form that Naruto cannot direct is less effective in a real battle, even when its raw chakra is greater.
The separation between the second- and third-ranked entries is also a matter of method. Six Paths Sage Mode is listed alone at number three, while Six Paths Sage Mode combined with Kurama Link Mode receives the number-two position. Discussions that use “Six Paths Naruto” as a shorthand for the entire combined state are usually describing the same overall peak, not contradicting this ranking.
Fan terminology versus official naming
- KCM1: common fan shorthand for Naruto’s earlier controlled Nine-Tails Chakra Mode.
- KCM2: common fan shorthand often used for the later partnered Kurama state, especially when Naruto can manifest Kurama fully.
- Kurama Link Mode: the terminology used more often in official material for Naruto’s synchronized partnership form.
- Tail transformations: the one-, four-, six-, and eight-tail states are escalation stages of the Nine-Tails transformation, but they are not all presented as equally formal named modes.
- Six Paths Naruto: frequently refers to Six Paths Sage Mode together with Kurama’s chakra. This ranking separates the combined state from Six Paths power considered by itself.
Game-exclusive visual variants should not be used as evidence for the manga and anime power scale. Games may add creative depictions that are not shown in the original story, so this list stays within the principal continuity.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Baryon Mode Naruto’s strongest form?
Yes, if strength means peak short-term combat performance. Baryon Mode gave Naruto the greatest demonstrated boost in speed, strength, and reactions and reduced Isshiki’s remaining lifespan through physical contact. It is not his best sustained or most versatile form because it consumes life force and cannot be maintained normally.
Is KCM1 or KCM2 an official name?
KCM1 and KCM2 are common fan abbreviations. Official material more often uses Nine-Tails’ Chakra Mode for Naruto’s earlier controlled cloak and Kurama Link Mode for the later partnership form.
Why are the eight-tail and six-tail forms below Sage Mode and Kurama Link Mode?
The uncontrolled tail transformations have enormous raw output, but Naruto cannot reliably direct them and risks losing himself to Kurama’s chakra. Sage Mode and the partnered Kurama states provide much better control, sensing, technique selection, and battle strategy.
Does this ranking include Naruto’s game transformations?
No. It covers the principal Naruto, Naruto Shippuden, and Boruto continuity. Game-exclusive forms, alternate-universe versions, and visual variants not established in the original story are excluded.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Baryon Mode wins the ranking because it gives Naruto the most overwhelming temporary advantage ever shown. Six Paths Sage Mode combined with Kurama Link Mode is the superior conventional form because it delivers extraordinary power, sensing, versatility, and endurance without Baryon Mode’s fatal time limit. Below those two, Naruto’s progression is clear: Six Paths power, Sage-and-Kurama combinations, controlled Kurama chakra, ordinary Sage Mode, increasingly unstable tail transformations, and finally base Naruto.
