Spoilers for the games in Squid Game Season 2. The season’s game sequences fall into two groups: the Recruiter’s personal, lethal contests before Gi-hun re-enters the competition, and the organized rounds played by the contestants. Together they test freezing control, dexterity, teamwork, time management and split-second social choices.
The Recruiter’s opening games
These scenes establish Season 2’s game motif, but they are not rounds in the competition run by the Front Man’s organization.
Bread and Lottery
In a park, the Recruiter offers 100 unhoused people a choice between a bun and a scratch-off lottery ticket. Anyone choosing bread may eat it. Anyone choosing a ticket receives a coin, scratches the ticket and returns the coin. The Recruiter then stomps on the leftover food.
The scene is a character-driven, game-like choice rather than a formal elimination round: immediate food is set against a small chance of a larger reward, and the discarded bread makes the cruelty of that choice visible.

- Gonggi Stone catching game (Korean Knucklebones) :Start the game by throwing five gong-gis onto the floor. Pick one gong-gi and throw it into the air. While this gong-gi is in the air, grab one that’s on the floor before catching the one in the air. Repeat this to clear the floor.
- Jebi Kicks (Korean Hacky Sack) : Continuously kick ‘Jebi’ in the air without dropping. Whoever manages the most number of kicks wins.
- Paeng-y (Spinning Tops) : Prepare by winding a rope around the bottom of the top. Then in one swift movement, yank on the free end of the rope to make the top spin.
- Biseokchigi : Knock down the opponents’ Biseok(rocks) in 18 steps. Each step consists of stably resting the biseok on a body part and moving to opponent’s biseok to knock them down.
- DDAKJI : It's involves two playing tiles of different colors. The point of the game is to flip over the other player's tile, by hitting it with your tile from above. As easy as the rules are, it's actually quite a challenging game that takes a lot more skill than you would think - but no worries, I'll give you a tip later to maximize our chances of winning this pastime.
Rock, Paper, Scissors, Minus One
The Recruiter plays a variant of rock-paper-scissors with Mr. Kim and Woo-seok. The players make the usual throw, then remove one hand and use the remaining hand to determine the result. The loser faces the gun in the next part of the sequence.
Netflix’s account presents Russian Roulette as the penalty. The Recruiter tells them there is “only a one in six chance of dying”; that is his sales pitch in the scene, not an independently established risk assessment. Mr. Kim dies, while Woo-seok survives but is left traumatized.
Russian Roulette
Season 2 shows two versions of the Recruiter’s Russian Roulette game. In the earlier sequence, he resets the cylinder after each draw, leaving five empty chambers out of six for every new pull. In his later confrontation with Gi-hun, he spins once at the beginning and the two alternate pulls without resetting. The risk therefore accumulates until a shot fires by the sixth pull.
The Recruiter dies after Gi-hun survives the fifth draw. These are the story’s stated mechanics for a fictional scene, not practical firearm guidance.

Red Light, Green Light
The first organized round reprises the series’ signature game. Contestants may move while Young-hee says “Green light.” When she says “Red light,” they must stop completely. Any movement detected after the command results in elimination.
Gi-hun remembers the rules from his previous experience and tries to warn the other contestants and help them hold still. His knowledge changes the human dynamic, but it does not remove the central requirement: each player must control every movement when the signal changes.
Netflix Tudum’s 2025 guide reports 91 players eliminated in this round. That is an in-story count, not a real-world statistic.
The Six-Legged Pentathlon
The Pentathlon converts five familiar Korean games into a linked team relay. Teams of five are tied together and have five minutes to finish all five stations. A team can move to the next mini-game only after the current player completes the task, so one person’s failure costs the whole group time and coordination.

1. Ddakji
A player throws one folded paper tile at an opposing folded tile, trying to flip the target over with the impact. The task rewards angle, force and a repeatable throwing motion.
2. Flying Stone
From behind a line, the player throws a stone at a target stone and tries to knock it down. After a miss, the entire team must retrieve the thrown stone and return before trying again, making accuracy and the five-minute clock inseparable.
3. Gong-gi
Using five small pieces, the player completes progressively harder toss-and-catch stages. The sequence ends by tossing the pieces together and catching them on the back of the hand. It is a dexterity test performed while four teammates remain physically linked.
4. Spinning Top
The player winds a cord around a top and throws it so the top spins. A failed attempt sends the whole team to retrieve it and restart, another penalty that turns a small technical mistake into lost relay time.

5. Jegi
The player must kick a shuttlecock-like jegi five times consecutively. Keeping the object airborne requires rhythm and foot control, while the team’s tether limits comfortable movement.
Netflix Tudum’s 2025 guide reports 111 players eliminated and 255 remaining after the Pentathlon. Those are fictional in-story counts. A traditional Korean games set containing gonggi pieces, a spinning top or a jegi can be related equipment for trying the individual games, but it should not be treated as official Squid Game merchandise or an exact recreation of the show’s set.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Mingle
Mingle replaces the Pentathlon’s fixed relay with rapidly changing social arithmetic. Contestants stand on a rotating carousel. When it stops, a number is called. Players must form groups of exactly that size and get those groups into a room. Anyone left outside, or in a room whose group does not match the announced number, is eliminated. Dead contestants do not count toward the required total.
The rule is simple; the pressure comes from the seconds available to choose. A player who was useful in one group may become surplus in the next, and every call can force contestants to include strangers, split from allies or abandon someone who cannot reach a correctly sized room.

- HOW TO PLAY – Gonggi is a popular Korean Cultural game played using five or more small grape-sized pebbles. There are different levels of playing these Jack stones. The game generally begins with each player tossing the stones from the palm of their hand into the air. While airborne, the player picks up one stone on the playing surface. Then, the player catches the stone. These steps are repeated until all stones have been caught.
- LUCK IN KOEAN CULTURE -. These Gonggi Jack Stones are packed in a lucky bag which contains luck in Korean Culture. Get this Konggi Jack stones and spread good luck among your friends, family, and relationships. This game can be played alone or with friends. The stones are called Gonggitdol.
- DEVELOPMENT MATTERS - The body part most directly related to the brain is called the hand. Air develops small muscles because the movement of hands and fingers is the main activity. While throwing and receiving accurately, calmness and caution will be developed. You get a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction as you succeed step by step in the play process.
Creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk told Netflix Tudum that he wanted to add the game in Season 2 because he remembered it from childhood. He said, “Depending on the number of people left, sometimes you tear someone away or abandon someone,” and described the appeal as “the calls people have to make in a heartbeat and the drama those decisions lead to.”
Netflix Tudum’s 2025 guide reports 100 contestants remaining after Mingle. This is an in-story figure.
How the Season 2 games differ
| Game | Primary demand | Unit of play | Pressure and elimination trigger |
|---|---|---|---|
| Red Light, Green Light | Freeze immediately on a cue | Individual survival | Movement detected after “Red light” means elimination |
| Six-Legged Pentathlon | Dexterity, accuracy and linked coordination | Fixed five-person relay | Five-minute limit; failed tasks and repeated retrievals consume team time |
| Mingle | Rapid coalition-building and exclusion | Groups that change with every number | Failure to enter a room in a group of exactly the called size means elimination |
There is no objective basis for naming one of these as the season’s hardest game. Red Light, Green Light concentrates on individual self-control; the Pentathlon combines several technical tasks with a shared clock; Mingle makes survival depend on immediate social regrouping. Their danger comes from different kinds of decisions rather than one common skill scale.
