Verdict: Emily in Paris Season 4 Part 2 is a hectic stretch of romance and workplace detours, but its finale gives the chaos a clear destination: Emily is assigned to lead Agence Grateau’s Rome office, while Gabriel’s renewed pursuit leaves their relationship unresolved. The Rome move is a meaningful new chapter, not a permanent departure from Paris.
Spoilers ahead for the ending of Season 4 Part 2.
Does Emily move to Rome?
Yes. In the finale, Emily is assigned to lead Agence Grateau’s Rome office and goes on a date with Marcello. Back in Paris, Gabriel learns she is moving and tries to find out where she is. That closing turn makes Rome more than a scenic stop: it changes Emily’s work and romantic circumstances at once.

It is not a declaration that Emily has left Paris forever. Creator Darren Star told Netflix Tudum, “Emily’s going to have a presence in Rome. It doesn’t mean she’s not going to be in Paris, but she’s going to have a presence in Rome.” He described the expansion as giving the series a bigger footprint. Netflix Tudum’s ending explainer makes the distinction clear: Rome opens a new chapter rather than closing the Paris one.
Why does the finale feel like a payoff?
The middle of Part 2 scatters attention across unstable relationships and Agence Grateau’s Italian business ambitions. Emily and Alfie separate; her relationship with Gabriel falters; and her growing connection with Marcello develops alongside the agency’s pursuit of Italian clients. The finale converts those parallel threads into a concrete change of setting and responsibility for Emily, then complicates the apparent fresh start by bringing Gabriel back into the picture.
#1 Best Overall
That contrast is why the finale can feel jaw-dropping after a more meandering second act. It does not resolve the central romantic tension so much as give it a new shape: Emily is in Rome with Marcello, while Gabriel is newly motivated to find her. Star described the season’s Emily–Gabriel dynamic to TVLine as “sort of like the romantic fantasies of each other, like the rose-colored glasses coming off a little bit.” The gap between idealized romance and the practical difficulty of their relationship gives the finale’s renewed pursuit its charge. TVLine’s September 12, 2024 interview with Star discusses the heartaches and finale turn.
Does the new setting change the show?
Rome gives the latter episodes a useful change of texture, and the Alps provide another visual departure. But the series uses these places primarily as backdrops for its glossy romantic and professional complications; the locations do not transform its storytelling into something more grounded or dramatically restrained. The Alps trip does at least connect its fashion spectacle to a recognizable screen reference: Emily’s look recalls Audrey Hepburn in Charade. Star has cited Hepburn’s romantic comedies and international, sophisticated screen persona as part of the show’s creative affinity. Netflix’s Season 4 overview frames Rome as a new destination and covers the Alps excursion.
The Rome office move makes the setting more consequential than a postcard interlude. It ties the Italian locations to Emily’s job and her relationship with Marcello, while the finale’s Gabriel hook keeps Paris emotionally present. Whether that split will create a more balanced next chapter remains open; this ending establishes the premise, not its eventual success.
Do Emily’s choices show growth?
Emily’s confidence and willingness to take on a new professional role point toward growth, but Part 2 presents development through messy choices rather than a clean coming-of-age breakthrough. Her romantic life remains unsettled, and the finale’s new possibilities do not erase the consequences of the season’s relationship detours.

Star told Netflix Tudum, “Characters can’t stay static. I feel like she has been growing and evolving, and this season she’s more confident, but also we dig a little bit more below the surface of some of the relationships. And so they get a little messier and more emotional.” The season’s strongest idea is that Emily’s next step can be both career advancement and emotional uncertainty; the execution is less consistent when multiple plot strands compete for room.
How do Camille’s story and the celebrity cameo fit?
Camille’s pregnancy assumption proves false, and she chooses adoption. That turn redirects her storyline rather than supplying a simple obstacle to Emily and Gabriel’s relationship. It also contributes to the season’s crowded emotional field, where several characters are recalibrating what they want at the same time.

Brigitte Macron appears as herself in a Season 4 episode. President Emmanuel Macron told the Associated Press, “I think it’s good for the image of France,” an opinion about the show’s portrayal rather than evidence of any measured tourism effect. The Associated Press report covers the cameo and his reaction.

For viewers invested in Emily’s romantic entanglements or curious about the Rome move, yes: the finale supplies a substantial change in Emily’s circumstances and a pointed hook for what comes next. The route there is uneven. The relationship and agency plots often feel overstuffed, and the fresh locations add more visual distinction than narrative discipline. Still, the ending gives those detours forward momentum, making Part 2 more rewarding at the finish than it is consistently engaging along the way.
