Ashley Park said filming Mindy Chen’s Crazy Horse performance in Emily in Paris was “so stressful and so hard to do.” She described the challenge as “every actor’s worst nightmare,” while emphasizing that she was proud of the finished scene.
What Ashley Park said about filming the scene
In a PEOPLE exclusive published September 14, 2024, Park discussed the scene at a press event in Rome on September 10. She described a familiar actor’s fear: “We have this recurrent memory of being onstage, not knowing what you’re doing, in your underwear.” She added that she was living out that scenario “surrounded by the most beautiful dancers in the world around me.”

Park said the work was “so stressful and so hard to do.” She credited choreographer Kyle Hanagami and her team with helping her through it: “If it had not been for the choreographer, Kyle Hanagami, coming in and my team around me, I don’t think I would’ve gotten through it.” PEOPLE characterized the experience as “every actor’s worst nightmare”; the phrase refers to the difficulty of filming this particular scene, not Park’s career as a whole. Which scene was Park talking about?
The scene appears in season 4, episode 8 of Emily in Paris. Park’s character, Mindy Chen, takes a job performing at Paris cabaret venue Crazy Horse as she tries to raise money for her band’s Eurovision ambitions. Mindy dances to Britney Spears’s “Oops!… I Did It Again,” using purses Emily throws from offstage to cover herself.

Mindy’s performance and nervousness are fictional story events. Park’s comments describe her real experience filming a scripted scene; they should not be read as a statement about her personal views on nudity.

Although filming was difficult, Park said she was “actually really proud of [the scene] now” and would “never forget doing” it. A same-day Glamour report also recounts her comments about the scene and the support she received from Hanagami.
