Emaza Gibson, who performs as Emaza Dilan, filed a new complaint against Jason Derulo and other defendants in Manhattan state court in September 2025, according to reporting. The complaint alleges sexual harassment and related claims under New York law; those allegations are not court findings. The earlier California case was dismissed over contract clauses directing related disputes to New York, not after a ruling on whether the alleged conduct occurred.
What the New York complaint alleges
Gibson’s September 2025 complaint names Derulo and Atlantic Records, according to reporting. Rolling Stone described it as a 49-page filing that restated the dispute under New York law. It reportedly asserts claims including discrimination, retaliation, hostile work environment, breach of contract, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
According to the complaint as described in the coverage, Gibson alleges Derulo contacted her about signing with a venture involving Atlantic Records and his label, Future History, and promised mentoring and collaboration. She alleges that she faced unwanted sexual pressure and career-related retaliation after rejecting advances and complaining. These are allegations in a civil complaint, not facts established by a court.
The complaint characterized the dispute this way: “This case arises out of a recording deal gone wrong due to egregious sexual harassment, broken promises, and retaliatory career sabotage.” That is the plaintiff’s pleading language, not a judicial conclusion.

Why the California lawsuit was dismissed
Gibson first sued in California in October 2023. Later reporting says a California judge dismissed that case in 2024 after finding that agreements included forum-selection clauses requiring related disputes to be brought in New York. Gibson did not revive the case in California.
A forum-selection ruling addresses where a dispute must be heard. The reported dismissal was not a determination that the harassment allegations were true or false. The New York filing therefore represents a new effort to pursue the claims in the forum the agreements specified, rather than a finding on the underlying allegations.

What Derulo’s representatives said
In response to the California case, Derulo’s legal team denied the allegations and said it would defend his innocence. The team said it was “fully committed to defending Jason’s innocence” against what it called “blatantly false and baseless claims,” and expressed confidence that a New York court would dismiss the case. Those statements are the defendants’ position, not a court ruling.
Gibson told Rolling Stone about the earlier filing: “This is super devastating for me. [Professional singing] is something I always wanted to do since I was a little girl. Jason was one of my favorite artists on the pop scene. I accept this amazing offer only to find out the person I looked up to would put me through such a traumatic situation.” That quote reflects her account.

What is known about the case’s status
LegalClarity reported in June 2026 that the New York case was pending under case number E2025022406. That secondary report does not establish the docket status on October 8, 2026. New York Courts provides case-search services through its WebCivil Supreme and eTrack systems, but the available search results did not yield a case-specific docket entry for this matter. Without a current official docket entry, it is not possible to say whether the case remains pending or has since been resolved.
