The auction house said the buyer was a client from California; it did not name the buyer or say where the shoes are now.
How much did Elvis Presley’s blue suede shoes sell for?
Henry Aldridge & Son reported a sale price of £120,000, converting it to around $152,000. CBS News described the result as more than $150,000. These are two descriptions of the same 2024 sale, not separate sales or competing estimates.
Auctioneer Andrew Aldridge told CBS News, “The price for me reflects the importance of such an iconic object.” CBS News reported the quote alongside its account of the auction.
Who bought the shoes?
The auction house described the purchaser as a California client, while CBS News called the buyer an American collector based in California. Neither account names the person. The available reporting also does not establish the shoes’ present location.

What was the reported provenance?
Henry Aldridge & Son described the shoes as size 10.5, stamped Nann-Bush, and worn by Presley on and off stage in the 1950s. According to the auction house, Presley gave them to his friend Alan Fortas in 1958, shortly before leaving for the Army.
The lot reportedly included Fortas’s signed account and a letter of authenticity from Jimmy Velvet. The auction house reproduced this sentence from Fortas’s account: “That night Elvis gave me these blue suede shoes size 10 1/2.” These records were included with the lot; their presence should not be confused with an independent public adjudication of the shoes’ provenance.

The auction house also attributed the shoes’ appearance on The Steve Allen Show in 1956 to performances of “I Want You, I Need You, I Love You” and “Hound Dog.” The Elvis Presley Museum page reproduces the Fortas letter and Velvet certificate, but historical display information there does not establish where the shoes can be seen today.

No. Carl Perkins wrote and first recorded “Blue Suede Shoes.” Presley later recorded a cover; CBS News notes that it opens his self-titled debut studio album. The song’s authorship is distinct from the auction lot’s reported connection to Presley and his shoes. The Library of Congress National Recording Preservation Board discusses the song’s history in its recording-preservation document.
