Grande later said she did not remember meeting Peterson, recalled having an anxiety attack and leaving before her family, and offered a conditional apology. In an October 2025 interview, Peterson said Grande’s response did not quite satisfy her and that she hoped the singer would learn from the experience.
What Peterson says happened
Peterson recounted the encounter during a Q&A at Knott’s Scary Farm in October 2024, describing it as her worst celebrity interaction. Fox News reported that she did not say when or where the meeting took place. The precise date and venue have not been established in the cited accounts.
In Peterson’s telling, Grande attended one of her shows with 20 guests. Peterson said she took photos and signed autographs for the group, then asked Grande for a photo herself. Peterson recalled Grande replying, “No, I don’t really do that,” and leaving before the performance while her relatives stayed. These details are Peterson’s recollection, not an independently verified account of the encounter. Fox News reported the Q&A account.
How Grande responded
Grande later commented on Peterson’s Instagram post. She said she did not remember getting the chance to meet Peterson, but recalled having an anxiety attack and, to her memory, leaving before the rest of her family. Grande added that the episode was around seven years earlier, when she was struggling with public crowds and loud places.

Her comment included a conditional apology: “if i’m misremembering this moment, i sincerely apologize for offending you so.” Grande also thanked Peterson for being kind to her mother. The wording acknowledged Peterson’s hurt while leaving open the possibility that Grande remembered the encounter differently. Entertainment Weekly reproduced Grande’s comment.
Why Peterson says the response fell short
In an interview published October 3, 2025, Peterson said the two had not been in touch after Grande’s comment and that she had let the matter drop. Peterson characterized the reply as not quite a straightforward apology, saying, “What’s the word? You know, where you do something, but you really have other thoughts in mind? Like, ‘Thank you, not really, thank you.’” She said she hoped Grande would become more humble with experience, adding, “So hopefully that will happen with her.”
