David Furnish said Elton John was doing “great,” keeping busy and moving forward in an interview reported on March 10, 2026. Furnish also said John was happy to be at home with their sons. The comments offer a personal update, not a new medical assessment.
What David Furnish said about Elton John’s health
Furnish made the remarks to Variety ahead of the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Academy Awards Viewing Party, according to E! News and The Standard, which reported them on March 12, 2026. E! quoted him saying, “He’s battling on,” and “He’s keeping busy and moving forward.” He also described John as doing “great.”
Furnish spoke about family life as well, telling Variety, as quoted by The Standard: “He’s happy being at home as a family with our sons. That’s why he came off the road.” The remarks connect John’s decision to leave touring with being at home with his family; they do not establish that health was the sole reason.
What the update does—and does not—tell us
Furnish’s words are reassuring descriptions from his husband, but they are not a clinical report. The coverage does not announce a new diagnosis, treatment plan or prognosis, and it does not independently establish John’s current medical status. “Doing great” should not be read as confirmation that a particular health problem has resolved.

How the March 2026 comments relate to John’s vision problems
Coverage of Furnish’s comments recalls John’s public disclosure of significant vision problems after an eye infection in 2024, including loss of vision in his right eye. That is background to the March 2026 stories, not a new disclosure in the interview. Neither E! News nor The Standard reports that his vision has recovered. ANSA also recapped the update and the earlier vision issue in its March 12 report.
