Officially titled “And Then There Were Nuns,” the episode’s clearest draw is Dianne Wiest as a Mother Superior whose clash with Elsbeth gives the premise its spark.

The episode also carries a separate thread: Teddy investigates Alec Bloom’s past, according to CBS’s episode page. That gives the installment more than one mystery to follow, even as the convent story supplies its distinctive setting.
Why the convent premise works
The hook is the collision of two worlds: the attention and disruption associated with a pop star’s purchase, and the routines and authority of a religious community. That contrast gives Elsbeth a fresh environment for its familiar investigative format. CBS describes the series’ central character as an unconventional attorney who works with the NYPD on high-profile murders; Elsbeth originated in The Good Wife and The Good Fight. CBS’s series description supplies that context.

The fictional sale also recalls a real dispute. The Daily Beast connected the episode’s premise to Katy Perry’s 2015 convent-purchase controversy. That is a reported comparison, not evidence that CBS or the episode’s creators confirmed the real event as inspiration. The Daily Beast’s recap discusses the connection.
Dianne Wiest is the episode’s focal point
Wiest’s casting makes the Mother Superior more than a piece of the setting: she is the natural counterweight to Elsbeth as the investigation presses into convent life. Their clash is the episode’s most immediately compelling dramatic prospect, built around an attorney accustomed to probing for answers meeting a leader with her own authority and priorities.

- An alcoholic ex cop finds a woman on the roadside, left for dead. He offers to find the killer pro bono as P.I. Her granddad hires him. Things get nasty.
That assessment is not a claim of unanimous critical response. CinemaBlend singled Wiest out as a strength in its review, while also describing the episode’s opening as confusing. CinemaBlend’s review offers one critic’s take rather than a consensus verdict.
