Elizabeth Olsen has not confirmed a permanent departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Her comments instead point to uncertainty about specific Avengers films: in November 2025, she said she was not in Avengers: Doomsday and did not know when Wanda Maximoff might return; in July 2026, she reportedly said she knew nothing about her involvement in either Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.
Is Elizabeth Olsen returning to the MCU?
Olsen has said she loves playing Wanda and would like to return when the story has a meaningful role for the character. That is an expression of interest, not confirmation that Marvel has cast her in an upcoming project.
At a 2025 Hamptons International Film Festival conversation, Olsen said, as reported by CinemaBlend: “It is something that I love, and it’s something I always want to return to.” She also said there were comic-book character storylines she would like to explore. Her enthusiasm does not establish that a return is planned.
Is Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Doomsday?
In a November 12, 2025 interview with The Playlist, Olsen said she could not imagine Wanda’s return in Doomsday, adding: “I just have no idea how or when, for sure.” The outlet reported that she confirmed she was not in the film at that time. That is evidence about this particular movie, not a statement that she will never play Wanda again.

Will Wanda appear in Avengers: Secret Wars?
In a July 23, 2026 report about her appearance at Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo, NDTV quoted Olsen saying she knew nothing about Doomsday or Secret Wars. “I know nothing,” she said, explaining that she had learned about VisionQuest only through seeing Paul Bettany. Her reported lack of information does not confirm either her casting or her absence from Secret Wars.
Olsen also described the condition under which she would be excited to return: if Wanda could serve the story and improve it rather than being included simply for a surprise. The comments indicate willingness, not a project announcement.

When will Wanda return?
There is no confirmed return date in the cited statements. In July 2026, Olsen said it had been a while since she had conversations about the Avengers projects and that she preferred not to know details she might accidentally reveal. Her remarks offer no timetable for Wanda’s next appearance.

Olsen’s last cited MCU appearance was in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The Independent noted that the film left Wanda’s fate open-ended; what happened to the character on screen does not establish Olsen’s future casting status. The outlet also reported that in March 2025, Olsen said she was back in the United States after finishing Panic Carefully and was moving on to film an FX pilot called Seven Sisters. The Independent interpreted that work schedule as meaning she would not be involved in the next two Avengers films, but that was an inference about those films—not a direct announcement of a permanent MCU exit: The Independent.
