ElevenLabs’ music offering has since developed into Eleven Music, with Music v2 announced in 2026. The current question is which product surface and access terms apply to your project.
What the 2024 early preview announced
Geeky Gadgets’ May 11, 2024 report described an early preview of an ElevenLabs music-generation model. It said users could create music from text prompts across styles and genres, generate lyrics, and maintain a consistent vocal style within a song. The report framed the model as a potential competitor to Suno and Udio.
Claims in that coverage about enthusiastic early feedback, near-human results, or ElevenLabs becoming a market leader were expectations and promotional characterizations, not independently established comparative findings. The 2024 preview should not be confused with the capabilities or access terms of today’s products.

What the current products are for
ElevenLabs presents music generation through distinct surfaces rather than one identical service for every user. Its current documentation describes text-prompted complete tracks, instrumental music, generated lyrics and vocals, multiple languages, section-level or whole-song editing, audio references, and composition workflows. ElevenMusic is the creator-facing environment for discovering, creating, remixing, and developing tracks. ElevenLabs’ Music v2 announcement describes it as one of the surfaces powered by v2. The announcement does not establish that every feature is available to every account.
ElevenCreative
ElevenCreative is positioned for business and content-production work, including music for advertising, branded content, and video. The workflow is aimed at making downloadable music for production, rather than simply experimenting with a prompt.

ElevenAPI
ElevenAPI is the developer-facing route for integrating music generation into applications and production pipelines. The API page lists a generation endpoint, POST https://api.elevenlabs.io/v1/music, as well as official Python and JavaScript/TypeScript SDKs. It also describes reference matching and self-serve generation limits ranging from 11 to 4,800 minutes per month, but does not establish a reliable mapping of those figures to particular plans. Music Marketplace
For buyers who want an existing track with a defined usage license instead of generating one, ElevenLabs documents a Music Marketplace. Its documentation says creator earnings start at 25% of the purchase price; that figure describes the marketplace’s stated starting share, not a general licensing rate for generated music. Availability depends on the product surface
ElevenLabs’ published access signals are not fully aligned. The Music v2 announcement described availability through ElevenMusic and ElevenCreative, said ElevenAPI was “coming soon,” and directed readers to contact sales for early access. Other current documentation says API access is available to paid subscribers, while the dedicated API page says the API is currently available to enterprise clients. Availability may therefore depend on account, subscription, product surface, and rollout status; verify it in the live product and with sales before building a workflow around it.

ElevenLabs says pricing for Music v1 and v2 was reduced by up to 50% for ElevenAPI and up to 40% for ElevenCreative self-serve customers. These are company-announced maximum reductions, not a current plan-by-plan price or a per-song cost. Consult the live pricing page for current prices.

Commercial use: licensed-data claims are not a universal clearance
ElevenLabs says its music models were developed with labels, publishers, and artists using licensed data, and markets the output as cleared for broad commercial use. Its music documentation and Music v2 announcement describe that positioning. The permission a user receives still depends on the product, plan, beta status, intended use, and applicable terms.
- Free plan: ElevenLabs support says the free plan does not include a commercial license; noncommercial publication may require attribution. Check the current publishing guidance.
- Beta services: The same support guidance says content generated with Beta Services cannot be used commercially or in production environments. A general commercial-use claim does not override this restriction.
- Film and television: ElevenLabs’ API announcement says these uses may require an Enterprise plan or specific rights treatment. Confirm the applicable terms for the project before release. API announcement
- Inputs and prompts: The Music API page identifies artist names, song titles, and lyrics among prohibited inputs. Upload reference audio only when you have permission to use it, and ensure that lyrics, samples, and other material you provide are cleared for your use.
A platform’s commercial license is not the same as a guarantee of copyright ownership or protection in every country. Copyright treatment varies by jurisdiction and can depend on human contribution, the output, and the rights in any material supplied. “Royalty-free” should not be read as “unrestricted.”

Who is Eleven Music a practical fit for?
- YouTubers and podcasters: Consider it for a custom intro, background bed, or vocal track if the selected plan permits the intended publishing use. Verify attribution, commercial rights, and whether the feature is in beta.
- Advertisers and agencies: ElevenCreative may suit branded-content workflows, but check the license scope, client obligations, territory, and any Enterprise requirement for the campaign.
- Game and app developers: ElevenAPI is relevant when generation needs to be embedded in a product or pipeline. Confirm account access, limits, latency and output requirements with ElevenLabs; the published availability signals differ.
- Songwriters and musicians: Text prompting, section-level revisions, audio references, and generated lyrics may help with ideation. A traditional DAW remains the better choice for exact MIDI, mixing, mastering, and detailed stem control.
- Hobbyists: The free plan may support exploration, but it does not provide a commercial license according to ElevenLabs’ support guidance.
- Enterprises: If the project needs contractual assurances, film or television rights, or deployment support, ask ElevenLabs for the terms that apply to the specific use rather than relying on general marketing language.
What to verify before choosing a plan
- Identify whether you need a complete song, instrumental bed, sound design, or embedded API generation.
- Check whether your workflow requires vocals, lyrics, multilingual output, references, or section-by-section revisions.
- Match the intended use—personal release, social video, advertising, podcast, game, film, or television—to the exact product and license.
- Confirm commercial rights, attribution rules, beta status, generation limits, and download or export terms for your account.
- Review whether the service supports the production controls you need, including stems or detailed post-production workflows; use a DAW or licensed library if it does not.
- Check that prompts and uploaded audio do not contain material you lack permission to use or inputs the service prohibits.
- For API projects, validate endpoint access and quotas on the actual account before committing to an integration.
