June Squibb stars as Eleanor Morgenstein, a 94-year-old who moves from Florida to New York after a devastating loss; an accidental visit to the wrong support group sets in motion a story that brings unexpected attention and difficult consequences. Sony currently lists six digital destinations, though availability and access options depend on location and retailer.
What is Eleanor the Great about?
After a devastating loss, Eleanor Morgenstein leaves Florida to live with her daughter and grandson in New York City. Hoping to reconnect with family, she instead finds herself adrift. When she wanders into a support group she does not belong to, a story she tells attracts unexpected attention. A young journalism student pursues Eleanor as a friend and mentor, and Eleanor eventually has to confront the truth.
This spoiler-light summary follows Sony’s official synopsis and avoids revealing further plot details. Sony Pictures Classics describes the film as “a comically poignant exploration of how the stories we hear become the stories we tell”—the distributor’s campaign description, rather than an independent critical assessment.
