When did the Grand Egyptian Museum open?
The dates describe two different milestones. UNESCO identifies 1 November 2025 as GEM’s official opening, while Egypt’s State Information Service says the museum opened to the public on 4 November 2025, following the inauguration. The distinction is between the formal opening and the reported start of public admission.
The State Information Service’s 2025 opening account reported more than 100,000 artifacts, the complete Tutankhamun collection and King Khufu’s Solar Boat at the museum. UNESCO’s opening overview also described the entire Tutankhamun collection as displayed together for the first time since its discovery.
What treasures can visitors see?
The museum is devoted to ancient Egyptian civilization, with collections spanning a long stretch of its history. GEM describes its collection as dating from the Prehistoric through the Roman periods. The museum’s galleries and visitor areas include:

Published totals differ, and the sources do not establish that they count the same things in the same way. Attribute each figure to its source rather than treating them as a single settled total.

The Presidency’s visitor figure is an expectation, not a reported attendance result. GEM itself describes its collection as running from the Prehistoric through the Roman periods.
