EE TV is not a standalone streaming app that you can buy separately and use with any broadband provider. It is a broadband-and-TV service from EE: you need an eligible EE Broadband and EE TV package, and EE’s TV equipment is intended to work only while you remain subscribed to the relevant services.
Once set up, EE TV combines live television, catch-up programming, streaming apps, recordings on the Pro box and on-demand purchases in one interface. The right way to get it is to check your postcode on EE’s broadband-and-TV sales page, choose a package and select compatible hardware.
What is EE TV?
EE TV is EE’s combined television interface for live channels, catch-up content, streaming services and store purchases. It is designed to sit alongside EE Broadband rather than replace it as an independent subscription.
EE’s packages include Entertainment, Sport, Big Entertainment, Big Sport and Full Works. The exact channels, streaming services and extras depend on the package and any options selected when ordering. EE’s sales information has included access to services and content such as NOW, Netflix, HBO Max, TNT Sports and Sky channels delivered through NOW, but package contents and promotional inclusions can change.

Do not rely on a permanent channel-count figure. EE’s channel guide changes and separates listings into Aerial Mode and Internet Mode. Some services are available through their own apps rather than appearing as direct Internet Mode channels.
How to get EE TV
- Check your address. Open EE’s Broadband and TV offers page and enter your postcode. Availability, broadband speed, package selection and price depend on location.
- Choose an eligible EE Broadband-and-TV package. EE’s advertised offer is not a universal price. As checked on 11 August 2026, one example was EE TV with Full Fibre 500 at £38.99 per month, on a 24-month contract, with stated increases to £44.99 in March 2027 and £50.99 in March 2028. Treat this as a dated commercial example, not an evergreen price.
- Select the hardware. The available choices include the EE TV Box Pro, EE TV Box Edge and Apple TV 4K. Additional Edge boxes may be available for multi-room viewing, subject to the offer and current pricing.
- Connect the equipment. The box connects to the EE Smart Hub and your television. You can self-install or arrange EE Home Tech Expert assistance during purchase.
- Sign in to the relevant services. Depending on your package, some services—including Netflix, NOW, discovery+ with TNT Sports and HBO Max—use their own apps or websites. They are not necessarily all played inside the EE TV Web Player.
Before ordering, check the live EE sales page, price guide, contract terms and channel guide. Prices, package contents, supported devices and promotional extras are liable to change.
Which EE TV box should you choose?
| Hardware | Best for | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|
| EE TV Box Pro | Recording live television, using an aerial fallback and getting the broadest Freeview access | Larger and more complex; Internet Mode has different channel and recording limits |
| EE TV Box Edge | Streaming, live TV and catch-up without recording | No recording function and no aerial input |
| Apple TV 4K | People who prefer Apple hardware and an app-based setup | No live-TV recording through the EE TV app |
EE TV Box Pro: the recording option
The Pro is the most capable EE TV box. EE lists a 1TB hard drive with capacity for more than 600 hours of television, subject to recording quality and the content itself. It supports live-TV pause and rewind, a 15-day guide, universal search, 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos.
In Aerial Mode, the Pro can record up to four channels at the same time. In Internet Mode, it can record up to two channels simultaneously. The EE TV app can also be used for remote recording with a compatible Pro box.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The Pro can connect to the EE Smart Hub using Wi-Fi or Ethernet. It does not require an aerial when used in Internet Mode, because the most popular free-to-air channels are delivered through the broadband connection. With a working rooftop aerial, Aerial Mode can provide the full Freeview selection available at your address.
There are several Internet Mode details worth knowing before choosing the Pro:
- Its channel selection is not identical to the aerial-based selection.
- BBC recordings are delivered through BBC iPlayer, so they may be subject to iPlayer availability and expiry rules rather than behaving like permanent recordings on the hard drive.
- Recorded programmes can become unavailable or expire.
- ITV adverts cannot be fast-forwarded in live or recorded ITV viewing.
- EE recommends Aerial Mode for broadband speeds below 22 Mbps.
EE TV Box Edge: the smaller streaming box
The Edge is a smaller, non-recordable box. It supports live television, catch-up viewing, streaming apps, universal search, 4K HDR, Dolby Atmos and pause/rewind features, but it has no live-TV recording.

- Ultra-speedy streaming: Roku Ultra is 30% faster than any other Roku player, delivering a lightning-fast interface and apps that launch in a snap.
- Cinematic streaming: This TV streaming device brings the movie theater to your living room with spectacular 4K, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision picture alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- The ultimate Roku remote: The rechargeable Roku Voice Remote Pro offers backlit buttons, hands-free voice controls, and a lost remote finder.
- No more fumbling in the dark: See what you’re pressing with backlit buttons.
- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
It also has no aerial input. Free-to-air television therefore needs to arrive over the internet, making the Edge most suitable for households with a reliable EE Broadband connection that mainly stream and use catch-up services.

EE offers Apple TV 4K as an EE TV hardware option, and EE’s support information explains how to set up the EE TV app on Apple TV 4K over Wi-Fi. It is the clearest choice for viewers who already prefer Apple’s interface or want a conventional Apple streaming box rather than an EE-branded receiver.
You can also compare an Apple TV 4K for the EE TV app as a separate physical device. Verify the exact generation and retailer listing before buying. Crucially, buying an Apple TV 4K does not by itself provide EE TV or EE Broadband; you still need the eligible EE service and subscription.
Apple TV 4K does not provide live-TV recording through the EE TV app, so it is not a substitute for the Pro if recording is the reason you want EE TV.
Internet Mode or Aerial Mode?
The connection mode affects the channels you receive, recording capacity and how much your viewing depends on broadband performance.
Internet Mode
Internet Mode is available on the Pro and Edge and is the only connection method for the Edge and Apple TV 4K. It is useful when your home has no aerial or the aerial signal is unreliable. Free-to-air television is delivered through the EE Smart Hub and the internet connection.
Its trade-offs are a narrower or different free-to-air line-up, dependence on broadband quality and, on the Pro, a maximum of two simultaneous recordings. When using Wi-Fi, EE says the Smart Hub should be within five metres of the TV box. That is guidance rather than a guarantee: walls, interference and household traffic can still affect performance.
Aerial Mode
Aerial Mode is available only on the Pro. It requires a working aerial and uses the local aerial signal for picture delivery. It can provide the full Freeview selection available at the address and supports up to four simultaneous recordings.

Aerial Mode is the sensible choice if your broadband speed is below 22 Mbps, if you want the broadest local Freeview line-up or if you want television to remain less dependent on broadband congestion.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsImportant: switching modes requires a reset. EE’s standard reset process deletes existing recordings and logs you out of apps. Watch or preserve anything important and make a note of your app sign-ins before changing modes.
How to watch EE TV away from the main television
EE TV is not limited to the set-top box. The EE TV app is available on supported iOS, tvOS, Android, Samsung TV and Amazon Fire TV devices, among others listed by EE. The Web Player can be used on Windows computers with supported browsers, and Chromecast is also supported.
EE says live and on-demand content can be watched on up to four registered devices through the app, Web Player and Chromecast, excluding the TV boxes. Once the device limit has been reached, replacing a registered device may require a 30-day wait. This matters if several members of a household regularly change phones, tablets or streaming devices.
The app can provide:
- Live television
- On-demand programmes
- The programme guide
- Scheduled recordings for compatible recordable boxes
EE estimates mobile streaming at approximately 100 MB per 10 minutes. That is roughly 600 MB per hour, so use Wi-Fi or an appropriate unlimited-data plan for extended viewing. Actual data use can vary with video quality and device settings.
What happens if you cancel EE TV?
The EE TV equipment is loaned equipment and remains EE’s property. It is not an ordinary retail set-top box that you can keep, resell, lend to somebody else or repurpose after cancellation.
If you cancel or are told to return the equipment, contact EE and request its prepaid returns bag. Do not put an EE TV box in household recycling, sell it online or assume that it will work with another broadband provider. The service and hardware are tied to the relevant EE subscription and broadband connection.

Contract, upgrades and package changes
EE TV prices and package rules vary by offer. A flexible extra may not be completely independent of the broadband contract, so check what happens to both services before upgrading, downgrading or cancelling.
EE’s guidance says that:
- Upgrades are generally possible before the final three months of a contract.
- Downgrades are generally limited to once every 30 days.
- Downgrades are unavailable during the first and final three months in the stated circumstances.
- Changes usually take up to 24 hours.
These are contract and offer rules rather than a promise that every customer has identical options. Your confirmation and current EE terms take precedence.
A simple decision guide
- Choose the Box Pro if you record live television, want an aerial fallback, need the fuller Freeview selection or want the highest recording capacity.
- Choose the Box Edge if you mainly stream, use catch-up services and do not need to record. It is also a good fit for a minimal setup where an aerial is unavailable and broadband is dependable.
- Choose Apple TV 4K if you already prefer Apple hardware or want an app-based setup. Do not choose it expecting live-TV recording.
- Choose Internet Mode if you have no suitable aerial and your broadband is reliable enough for television streaming.
- Choose Aerial Mode on the Pro if broadband is below 22 Mbps, the internet connection is inconsistent or you want the broadest Freeview line-up and up to four simultaneous recordings.
EE TV troubleshooting checklist
- No picture or buffering: check that the Smart Hub is online, move a Wi-Fi-connected box closer to the hub or use Ethernet if practical, and check whether other household devices are consuming significant bandwidth.
- Missing channels: confirm whether the box is in Internet Mode or Aerial Mode. The two modes do not offer identical channel line-ups. Also check the current EE channel guide rather than an old list.
- Cannot record four programmes: four simultaneous recordings apply to the Pro in Aerial Mode. Internet Mode allows up to two.
- Cannot record on an Edge or Apple TV 4K: neither option provides live-TV recording through EE TV.
- BBC recording has disappeared: BBC programmes may be delivered through BBC iPlayer and can be subject to iPlayer availability or expiry.
- Apps are missing or asking for a login: some included services operate through their own apps or websites. Sign in with the relevant service account where required.
- Changing modes: remember that resetting to change between modes deletes recordings and logs you out of apps.
- Watching on a new device: check the four-device registration limit. If the limit has been reached, device replacement may be delayed for 30 days.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get EE TV without EE Broadband?
No. EE TV is a broadband-and-TV bundle, and the equipment is intended to work while you remain subscribed to the relevant EE Broadband and EE TV service.
Does EE TV need an aerial?
Not always. Internet Mode does not require an aerial and is available on the Pro and Edge. The Edge and Apple TV 4K rely on internet delivery. The Pro can also use Aerial Mode with a working aerial, which provides the fuller local Freeview line-up and up to four simultaneous recordings.
Can the EE TV Box Edge record programmes?
No. The Edge is a non-recordable box. Live-TV recording is a Pro feature, and the Pro’s recording limit depends on the connection mode.
Can I keep my EE TV box after cancelling?
No. EE TV equipment is loaned and remains EE property. Contact EE for a prepaid returns bag rather than selling, lending, recycling or discarding the box.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Can I watch EE TV on my phone or laptop?
Yes, through the EE TV app on supported mobile devices or the Web Player on supported Windows browsers. EE also supports viewing through certain smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV devices and Chromecast.
The Bottom Line
EE TV is best understood as EE Broadband with an integrated television service, not as a standalone app. Pick the Pro for recording and aerial flexibility, the Edge for straightforward streaming without recording, or Apple TV 4K for an app-based Apple setup. Check your postcode, current package terms and channel guide before ordering, and remember that EE’s TV equipment must be returned if the service ends.
