How the super-sized finale worked
The November 26 broadcast ran for three hours and featured all five finalist couples in two rounds: a judge-assigned redemption dance followed by a freestyle. ABC’s pre-finale announcement said semifinal scores and votes would carry over and be combined with finale-night judges’ scores and live viewer votes to determine the winner. The announcement described the voting formula, but ABC’s recap does not provide a complete final score table, so it does not establish that one dance or score alone decided the title.
Redemption round: returning to a dance style
Each couple performed a dance selected as a chance to revisit a style from earlier in the competition:

Freestyles: five different finales
The free-choice performances gave each pair a distinct musical concept:
- Graziadei and Johnson danced to “Canned Heat.”
- Maher and Bersten performed to “Femininomenon.”
- Kinney and Armstrong used “Hellzapoppin” and “Move On Up.”
- Nedoroscik and Arnold danced to “Viva La Vida,” joined by special appearances from Nedoroscik’s gymnastics teammates.
- Amendola and Carson performed to “Pink” and “I’m Just Ken.”
Johnson later described Graziadei as having no dance experience and said he embraced each week’s challenge and became a dancer. That account appeared in ABC News’ post-finale interview.

ABC’s ratings release provides the measurement context.
