After Kendrick Lamar released “Euphoria” on April 30, 2024, Drake posted an Instagram Story featuring a clip from the film 10 Things I Hate About You. The timing and the clip led coverage to interpret the post as a possible response—but Drake did not name Lamar, and his intent was not confirmed.
What Drake posted after “Euphoria”
Billboard Canada reported that Drake’s Instagram Story showed Julia Stiles’s character reciting her poem in the 1999 film 10 Things I Hate About You, accompanied by a winking-face and broken-heart emoji. The film’s title and the clip’s list-of-things-someone-hates theme echoed a memorable idea in Lamar’s track. Billboard described the connection as seeming, not confirmed: Drake did not mention Kendrick in the Story. Billboard Canada’s May 1 report framed it as a possible reaction.
Lamar had released “Euphoria” on YouTube the day before. The song was a direct entry in the renewed exchange between the rappers, and its title and lyrics made the film clip an easy reference for observers to connect. That connection is an interpretation of timing and theme—not a statement by Drake confirming that he meant the Story as a reply. The Guardian’s contemporaneous coverage described Lamar’s track as part of the escalating feud.
How the feud reached “Euphoria”
The immediate escalation unfolded over weeks, although the public rivalry had a longer history. The dates below distinguish songs from social-media posts and separate a reported event from an inferred connection.

| 2013 | Lamar called out Drake and other rappers on Big Sean’s “Control.” AP later reported Drake saying, “I know good and well that Kendrick’s not murdering me, at all, in any platform.” | An earlier public flashpoint in their rivalry; the quotation is Drake’s response as reported by AP. |
| October 2023 | J. Cole’s verse on Drake’s “First Person Shooter” described Cole, Drake and Lamar as a “big three.” | Set up the ranking language Lamar would reject months later. |
| March 22, 2024 | Lamar appeared on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That” and rejected the “big three” framing with “it’s just big me.” | The lyric reignited the exchange; it is competitive bravado, not an objective ranking. |
| April 13, 2024 | Drake’s “Push Ups” response leaked; accounts describe its later release or premiere separately. | A response to the renewed challenge. The leak date should not be confused with the track’s later official or platform release. |
| April 19, 2024 | Drake posted “Taylor Made Freestyle” on social media, using AI-imitation vocals of Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg. | Reporting said Tupac’s estate objected and Drake removed the post. |
| April 30, 2024 | Lamar released “Euphoria” on YouTube. | The six-minute-plus diss track criticized Drake’s artistry and public image, among other subjects. |
| April 30–May 1, 2024 | Drake posted the 10 Things I Hate About You clip to Instagram Stories. | Coverage linked it to “Euphoria” based on its timing and theme; Drake did not directly identify Lamar. |

What happened next
The exchange accelerated again in early May. Lamar released “6:16 in LA,” Drake answered with “Family Matters,” and Lamar followed with “Meet the Grahams” and “Not Like Us.” Drake then released “The Heart Part 6.” These later tracks intensified the public dispute, but they do not establish what Drake intended by the earlier Instagram Story. The AP and CBS timelines document the sequence; TIME’s May 6 account also describes the dispute and its allegations.

What the lyrics do—and do not—establish
Diss tracks are adversarial performances, not independent fact-finding. The Associated Press cautioned that “diss tracks between rappers often include exaggerated truths and unsubstantiated rumors for dramatic effect.” TIME likewise described the feud as involving numerous unverified allegations and reported Drake’s denial of allegations about him. Claims made in lyrics should therefore be attributed to the artist or track that made them; their appearance in a song does not verify them.
