Ultra Ego is Vegeta’s manga transformation, revealed in the battle with Granolah after training with Beerus in the path of Destruction. The official Dragon Ball recap establishes that origin, but it does not lay out a complete formula for the form’s power, limits, or growth. In particular, it does not establish that taking damage automatically makes Vegeta stronger.
Where Ultra Ego comes from
Vegeta reveals Ultra Ego during the Granolah storyline in the Dragon Ball Super manga. The official Dragon Ball site describes it as “a transformation attained through his training with Lord Beerus” in its Volume 18 recap, published March 31, 2022.
The transformation is part of Vegeta’s effort to pursue the power of Destruction, rather than a change presented only as a new appearance. An earlier official story recap, published May 21, 2021, says he was working with Beerus to master the Destruction technique. The Volume 18 recap then places Ultra Ego’s debut in his fight with Granolah.
What the story establishes about how it works
The official summaries establish the form’s connection to Beerus’s training and the Destruction path. They do not provide a complete technical account of Ultra Ego’s mechanics, including a precise rule for how its power changes during combat or a full list of its limitations.

That distinction matters when describing damage. The recaps do not say that damage itself automatically makes Vegeta stronger. A character’s willingness to keep fighting, or a tactical choice made during one fight, should not be treated as proof of a universal damage-triggered power rule. Without a verified, direct account of the relevant manga dialogue, that claim is not established here.
How Ultra Ego differs from Goku’s path
The official recaps frame the two Saiyans’ training directions differently: Goku develops Ultra Instinct with Whis, while Vegeta studies Destruction with Beerus. In the Granolah battle, the recap identifies Vegeta’s Ultra Ego as his new form. These details show different mentors and disciplines; they do not establish a numerical ranking between the forms or a complete mechanical comparison.

Where to read the Ultra Ego debut
The story is in the Dragon Ball Super manga. VIZ’s official chapter catalog lists Chapter 74 and links to adjacent chapters; its series catalog identifies the title as a manga and lists print volumes. Volume 18 is a natural place to follow the Granolah storyline surrounding the reveal. Chapter and volume availability can vary by region and format.
