Dragon Ball DAIMA begins in the aftermath of the Majin Buu conflict. Toei Animation’s official announcement connects the series to Goku’s battle with Majin Buu, while the series premise starts with Goku and his friends living peacefully before a conspiracy turns them small. The sources do not establish an exact time gap—or definitively place DAIMA relative to Battle of Gods.
What the story’s opening tells us
Toei Animation’s 2023 announcement describes a teaser in which a mysterious figure watches Goku’s fierce battle with Majin Buu. That image anchors DAIMA to the Buu conflict, but it does not state how long after the battle the main story begins. Toei Animation’s announcement is evidence of the connection, not a dated timeline.

Toei’s official DAIMA catalog entry supplies the story’s starting point: Goku and company have been living peacefully when a conspiracy suddenly makes them small. They suspect a link to the Demon Realm, where they encounter the young Majin Glorio. An October 19, 2024 Dragon Ball Official Site episode announcement identifies Gomah’s conspiracy and says the group decides to travel to the Demon Realm.
Is DAIMA before Dragon Ball Super or Battle of Gods?
MeriStation reported on October 13, 2024, that DAIMA takes place after Kid Buu and before Dragon Ball Super, while noting that the exact interval is unspecified. That is a secondary outlet’s placement, not a direct confirmation in the official materials cited here. MeriStation’s report should therefore be treated as an interpretation rather than a definitive official timeline.

#1 Best Overall
The finer placement relative to Battle of Gods is not settled by the official sources discussed here. The Dragon Ball Official Site’s Series Chronology lists release and broadcast milestones—Battle of Gods (2013), Dragon Ball Super (2015), and DAIMA’s broadcast beginning in 2024. Those are publication and broadcast dates, not the order or dates of events within the stories.
Where does the adventure go?
DAIMA’s central adventure takes Goku and his companions to the Demon Realm. Toei’s 2024 announcement about the series trailer describes Goku and Supreme Kai being miniaturized through a conspiracy and setting out on an adventure there. The Demon Realm setting helps define what happens after the peaceful opening, but does not supply a calendar year or elapsed time since the Buu battle.

What is known—and what remains unconfirmed
- Supported anchor: Toei’s teaser announcement connects the series to Goku’s battle with Majin Buu.
- Story opening: Goku and his friends are living peacefully before a conspiracy turns them small.
- Adventure setting: The group’s journey leads to the Demon Realm.
- Not specified in the official materials cited here: an in-universe year, an exact number of months or years after the Buu conflict, or a definitive placement relative to Battle of Gods.
- Secondary placement: MeriStation places DAIMA after Kid Buu and before Dragon Ball Super; that should not be confused with an official timeline statement.
Toei says Akira Toriyama worked on DAIMA’s original concept, story, and character designs, as well as many vehicles, monsters, and background characters. That establishes his creative involvement, but does not by itself resolve the series’ exact chronology.
