Vegeta transforms into Super Saiyan 3 in Dragon Ball DAIMA episode 12, during his fight with Tamagami Number Two. It is his first appearance in an official Dragon Ball anime story in this form; he had appeared as Super Saiyan 3 in video games before. Calling the DAIMA appearance “canon” is a common shorthand, but the official sources cited here establish the anime event rather than a franchise-wide canon policy.
When does Vegeta go Super Saiyan 3 in DAIMA?
Vegeta transforms in episode 12, while fighting Tamagami Number Two. The episode report from Meristation, updated January 2, 2025, identifies the moment. This makes the transformation an event in an official anime story, rather than simply an alternate character option in a game.
DAIMA is presented by the franchise as an original anime based on a new Dragon Ball story. The Dragon Ball Official Site describes the series as an all-new anime and notes that Akira Toriyama worked on its original concept, story, and character designs. Toei Animation USA likewise called it an original anime based on a new story and characters from Toriyama in its September 12, 2024 announcement.
Does that mean Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta is canon?
In ordinary fan and media usage, yes: the form appears as part of the story in an official Dragon Ball anime. Meristation calls the DAIMA event a canon appearance. But “canon” is a continuity label, and the official material cited here does not set out a formal, franchise-wide canon policy or issue a specific declaration about this transformation. The most precise statement is that DAIMA depicts Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta in its anime story.
#1 Best Overall
- Super Saiyan Vegeta arrives in S.H.Figuarts with a completely new sculpt featuring the latest articulation system. Faithfully recreated with meticulous attention to detail, capturing the proportions, hair volume, and various expressions from the original anime artwork
- Features the enhanced articulation structure refined through the S.H.Figuarts Dragon Ball series, including the “Dynamic-Movable Shoulder System” (patent pending) specifically for the shoulders!" New sculpting achieving both visual accuracy and articulation are incorporated in areas like chest, shoulders, and stomach
- Alongside flexible articulation for recreating battle scenes, three optional expression parts are included: “Smirking Face,” “Gritted Teeth Face,” and “Screaming Face” to enable diverse scene recreations
- [Set Contents] Main body, Optional hand parts (L/R) x 4, Facial expression parts x3, Optional crossed arms part, Optional head part, Optional ankle parts (L/R)
- The product box will have a Bandai Namco warning label, which is proof that you are purchasing an officially licensed product
That distinction matters because an officially licensed game appearance and an event in an anime story are not the same kind of evidence for story continuity. The DAIMA episode establishes the anime depiction; it does not, by itself, settle how every Dragon Ball anime, manga, game, or future continuity should be reconciled.
Vegeta had used Super Saiyan 3 in games before DAIMA
DAIMA did not introduce the form in every medium. Meristation lists earlier Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta appearances in Dragon Ball Z: Dragon Battlers, the Raging Blast games, Dragon Ball Heroes, and Dragon Ball Fusions. Those game appearances predate the anime episode, but they do not turn the DAIMA scene into merely another game variation.

Why didn’t Vegeta use Super Saiyan 3 in Dragon Ball Super?
The sources cited here do not establish an official explanation for why the form does not appear in Dragon Ball Super. It would be speculation to present a specific reason as settled continuity. DAIMA’s episode confirms that Vegeta uses the form in that story; it does not supply a definitive reconciliation with every later or other-series appearance.
Official DAIMA Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta figures
The character’s official merchandise reflects the anime form, but product announcements are not statements of canon policy. Bandai lists a 6.5-inch Dragon Stars Series Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta [DAIMA Ver.], item 40738, on its product page. The page listed an MSRP of $23.99 when reviewed; current price and stock may differ. The Dragon Ball Official Site also announced an S.H.Figuarts Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta -DAIMA- figure on August 5, 2026.
