The episode eases off the pace of the preceding Tamigami battle, but its theft plot, character moments and closing reveal give the adventure fresh momentum.
What happens in Dragon Ball DAIMA episode 9?
A disturbance in a hotel lobby provides cover for thieves to take Goku’s Dragon Ball. Panzy had placed a tracker on it, so the group can follow the culprits. When Goku tries to recover the ball, the thieves toss it between them; Glorio ends the chase with a magical electrical whip. Crunchyroll’s episode recap identifies “Thieves” as season 1, episode 9.

The episode’s theft motif continues with the other group. Vegeta, Piccolo and Bulma discover that their aircraft has been stolen, and Hybis suspects the people Vegeta fought the night before. The two thefts connect the groups’ separate threads without bringing them together.
Who is Majin Kuu?
The closing scene returns to Dr. Arinsu and Great Witch Marba’s research and reveals Majin Kuu. Arinsu sends him to defeat Tamigami Number One and take its Dragon Ball. The Dragon Ball Official Site says Kuu was created through Arinsu and Marba’s research and identifies Tomokazu Seki as his voice actor.

The recap also notes that word of Goku’s feat has spread through the Demon World, making his group a more prominent target. Kuu’s assignment turns that growing attention into a direct challenge tied to another Dragon Ball.
Why the episode’s quieter pace works
Episode 9 is more laid-back than the preceding Tamigami fight, so its tension comes less from a sustained battle than from the theft, pursuit and the threat developing elsewhere. The structure gives each strand room to advance: Goku’s group recovers its Dragon Ball, the second group loses its aircraft, and Arinsu’s plan gains a new player.

CBR reviewer Daniel Kurland praised the balance of storytelling, action, character development and visual direction, while acknowledging the more relaxed pace. That is a critical assessment rather than an objective measure of quality. Crunchyroll published the episode recap and lists the series; Toei Animation’s catalog also lists Crunchyroll among the show’s digital platforms. Availability depends on territory, so check the service’s current listing in your region.
For physical media, Crunchyroll announced Dragon Ball DAIMA: The Complete Season on standard and limited-edition Blu-ray, with North American availability announced for August 11, 2026. This is a season collection, not a disc for episode 9 alone.
