Where is Donkey Kong Country at Universal?
There are two locations to know about: Universal Studios Japan (USJ) in Osaka, Japan, and Universal Epic Universe in Orlando, Florida. Donkey Kong Country is a themed section within SUPER NINTENDO WORLD at each park—not a standalone park.

When did Donkey Kong Country open?
USJ announced the Osaka opening for December 11, 2024, and confirmed the land’s opening that day. Universal called it the world’s first Donkey Kong-themed area, based on the company’s in-house research into establishments themed with Nintendo characters and worlds; that is Universal’s qualified claim, not an independently verified global ranking. What is in Donkey Kong Country?
Jungle scenery and The Golden Temple
At USJ, Universal describes a tropical jungle environment featuring The Golden Temple. The land’s story centers on Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong protecting the Golden Banana, with the mine attraction taking guests into the mines. Universal’s Orlando preview likewise describes tropical landscape, tall trees, waterfalls and The Golden Temple.

Mine Cart Madness
Mine Cart Madness is the signature coaster. Universal says the ride recreates mine-cart action on a rickety track, with an effect that makes the cart appear to jump gaps and a launch from a barrel. These are the operator’s descriptions of the attraction’s premise and effects, not an independent technical assessment or ride review. Universal described the Osaka attraction as “first-of-its-kind”; that wording is promotional and should be understood as Universal’s characterization.
At the Osaka opening ceremony, Nintendo Representative Director and Fellow Shigeru Miyamoto said: “There are many elements throughout the land where you can find gameplay and design from the world of Donkey Kong; such as a mine cart-themed coaster that is thrilling but enjoyable to children and an activity where you can meet Rambi the rhinoceros.” The statement appears in USJ’s opening-day release.

USJ’s current visitor page lists a full-body play experience, a Donkey Kong meet-up, Power-Up Band Key Challenges, Jungle Beat Shakes, Funky’s Fly ’n’ Buy, and Donkey Kong and Mine Cart Madness photo opportunities. It also lists food and merchandise. Offerings and operating availability can change, so consult the park’s live page close to your visit.
Universal’s Orlando preview confirms themed food and merchandise as part of its version, but the available Orlando description does not establish that every Osaka activity, menu item or operating detail is replicated there.

How do you get into Donkey Kong Country at Universal Studios Japan?
USJ says that from January 5, 2026, guests need to use the official app to obtain Area Timed Entry Tickets or Standby Entry Tickets. The park also says such entry tickets—whether obtained in advance or on the day—may or may not be required depending on conditions that day. Do not assume a general admission ticket alone guarantees access to the area.
- Check current USJ guidance: Visit the official Donkey Kong Country page before your visit to see whether area entry tickets are required.
- Use the official app if tickets are needed: Obtain an Area Timed Entry Ticket or Standby Entry Ticket in the app, following the park’s current instructions.
- Recheck on the day: Entry requirements depend on that day’s conditions; follow the app and park guidance rather than relying on a past visit report.
These app-based directions are for USJ. The cited Orlando information confirms Epic Universe’s opening and describes its land, but does not establish an equivalent Orlando entry-ticket procedure. Check Universal Orlando’s current park information for Orlando-specific admission and access details.

Is the Power-Up Band required?
No. Universal describes the Power-Up Band as a wearable guests may purchase for interactive experiences across Super Mario Land and Donkey Kong Country. It can be used to collect digital coins and stamps, earn keys and participate in activities; the official description presents it as an optional interactive item, not a requirement to enter the land. Check the relevant park’s current listing for availability and details.
