The clearest connection she shared was an article excerpt about bats and transition, shown alongside her large bat-skeleton tattoo. Other designs—including skulls, a devil figure and a film quotation—have been described in entertainment coverage, but their meanings remain unconfirmed.
Which of Doja Cat’s tattoos have reported meanings?
The available accounts distinguish between a design Doja Cat connected to a shared article and tattoos whose symbolism has been suggested by others. The distinction matters: a familiar interpretation of an image is not proof of what it means to the person wearing it.

| Bat skeleton | Large design spanning the upper back and shoulders; revealed in May 2023. Teen Vogue identifies Mr. K as the artist (Teen Vogue). | Doja shared a screenshot of an article about bats alongside images of the tattoo. The excerpt said bats can represent “death in the sense of letting go of the old, and bringing in the new” and “transition,” “initiation,” and “the start of a new beginning.” This is wording from the shared article, not a direct quotation from Doja explaining the tattoo (iHeart). |
| Antelope skull | Reported on her left wrist in March 2023. Body Art Guru attributes the tattoo to Brian Woo, also known as Dr. Woo (Body Art Guru). | The roundup says Doja did not disclose why she chose it. Its personal meaning is not established. |
| Devil figure | Tuko describes a fine-line figure holding a pitchfork on the inner left bicep (Tuko). | Tuko offers possible symbolism, while noting that Doja has not confirmed an explanation. Those readings are speculation, not her stated meaning. |
| Sword and eye | Tuko describes a hand design of a sword piercing an eye, with additional details. | The roundup says the symbolism has not been fully explained. A definitive personal meaning is not established. |
| Gretel & Hansel quotation | Tuko reports script from the film on her bicep. | The outlet suggests a cautionary interpretation, but the available report does not establish that as Doja’s own explanation. |
| Later creature imagery | HipHopDX reports that an Instagram follow-up connected a later creature tattoo to Fortunio Liceti’s 1655 Monsters series (HipHopDX). | The historical-art reference is the source-reported connection; it does not settle every interpretation of the image. |
What does Doja Cat’s bat tattoo mean?
The bat tattoo is the design with the clearest reported context. In May 2023, Doja showed a large bat skeleton across her upper back and shoulders. Teen Vogue named Mr. K as the artist. Alongside the images, Doja shared a screenshot of an article whose excerpt associated bats with letting go of the old, beginning anew, transition and initiation.
That context supports saying she shared an article linking bats with change. It does not support presenting the excerpt as her own spoken explanation, or claiming that it fully describes her personal intention.

What is known about the other tattoos?
Antelope skull
The left-wrist antelope skull was reported in March 2023, with Brian Woo (Dr. Woo) credited as its artist by Body Art Guru. The roundup says Doja did not disclose her reason for choosing it. Symbolism often associated with skulls or antelopes should therefore not be treated as her personal explanation.
Devil figure, sword and eye, and film text
Tuko’s roundup describes a devil figure holding a pitchfork on the inner left bicep, a sword piercing an eye on the hand, and a quotation from Gretel & Hansel on the bicep. The outlet proposes possible readings for some of these designs, but the available reporting does not establish those interpretations as Doja’s own. The film text’s appearance is reported; a personal reason for choosing it is not.
Creature imagery and the historical reference
HipHopDX says Doja’s Instagram follow-up connected a later creature tattoo to Fortunio Liceti’s 1655 Monsters series. That is a specific reported art-historical reference. It should not be expanded into claims about a broader meaning that the source does not establish.

There is no established, independently verified current total. Tuko gives an approximate range and acknowledges that some apparent designs could be temporary, so a precise count would overstate what the reporting confirms. Tattoo inventories can also become outdated as new work is revealed.

How to read claims about tattoo meanings
- Shared context: For the bat, Doja shared an article excerpt about transition and new beginnings alongside the reveal. That is stronger evidence than symbolism supplied solely by a roundup, but it is still not a direct, comprehensive explanation from her.
- Reported design or artist: A placement, date, or artist credit can be reported with attribution to the outlet that identifies it.
- Unconfirmed interpretation: When a source suggests what a tattoo might symbolize but reports no explanation from Doja, treat the meaning as the outlet’s reading—not a fact about her intentions.
