Don Lemon announced on November 13, 2024, that he was leaving X, formerly Twitter. He said he no longer believed the platform supported honest debate, transparency and free speech, and pointed to revised terms that direct disputes with X to courts in Texas. The available coverage confirms his announcement, not that he deleted or deactivated his account.
Why did Don Lemon say he was leaving X?
In his November 13 announcement, Lemon said he had once viewed X as a place for honest debate and discussion, transparency and free speech, but no longer felt it served those purposes. Mediaite reported his statement and his reference to X’s revised terms of service.
Lemon objected to the terms’ designated courts for disputes with the company: the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas or state courts in Tarrant County, Texas. He argued that the change mattered to people bringing legal disputes against X. That was his rationale; the cited coverage does not establish that the venue provision had a particular legal effect in a court ruling.
What happened to The Don Lemon Show on X?
The planned show partnership was canceled in March 2024 after Lemon recorded an interview with Elon Musk. The arrangement had been announced as a show on X, but TechCrunch reported that the deal was canceled before it was signed. Lemon sued Musk and X in August 2024 over the canceled arrangement.
#1 Best Overall
The show cancellation is relevant background, but it is separate from Lemon’s stated reason for leaving the platform in November: X’s revised terms and his loss of confidence in the platform’s role in public discussion. The Associated Press reported that X said the show could still publish on the platform without censorship; that response addressed the show, not Lemon’s later departure announcement.

The reports establish that Lemon announced he was leaving X. They do not establish that he deleted or deactivated his account, or whether he stopped using the platform altogether. It is therefore more accurate to describe this as an announced departure than to say X removed him or that his account was shut down.
