Doja Cat closed Coachella’s first weekend on Sunday, April 14, 2024, with a theatrical, rap-forward set that ended in mud and fireworks. The show favored material associated with her Scarlet era over familiar pop hits, while bold staging and live camera work shaped how the performance looked to the crowd.
What happened during Doja Cat’s 2024 Coachella set?
Doja opened in a hazmat suit with “Acknowledge Me,” then moved through a series of stark, surreal images: blond hair-covered costumes, an industrial-looking stage, a T. rex skeleton and pyrotechnics. The staging paired choreography and theatrical props with prominent live camera work.

The set’s song choices leaned toward Scarlet-era material and rap. Rolling Stone Canada noted that Doja did not perform “Say So,” “Woman” or “Kiss Me More,” a conspicuous departure from the hits many listeners might expect at a headline show. Rolling Stone Canada’s April 15, 2024 review framed the set as an edgy, rap-forward turn.
Who joined Doja Cat onstage?
The set included appearances by The Joy, 21 Savage, Teezo Touchdown and A$AP Rocky. Their appearances added guest moments to a show otherwise built around Doja’s own songs, choreography and visual sequences.

Why was Doja Cat covered in mud at Coachella?
Mud was part of the closing spectacle. For “Wet Vagina,” Doja and dancers rolled in a mud-filled area as fireworks brought the show to an end. The finale extended the performance’s deliberately messy, theatrical visual language rather than serving as a separate event or mishap. GRAMMY.com’s recap and SFGATE’s review both describe the muddy finish.
How did the production affect the audience’s view?
The camera-centered production created a tradeoff. SFGATE reviewer Stephen Council described detailed, music-video-like imagery on the screens, which could make the performance easier to follow from farther away. But for some people near the stage, phones, fog, cameras and set pieces could obstruct a direct view of Doja. That is a reviewer’s account of the sightline experience, not a claim that every attendee saw the show the same way. SFGATE’s April 15, 2024 review discusses that contrast.

Did Doja Cat perform “Say So” at Coachella?
No. Rolling Stone Canada reported that “Say So,” “Woman” and “Kiss Me More” were absent from the 2024 Weekend One set. The choice aligned with the show’s emphasis on rap material and the Scarlet era rather than a greatest-hits approach.
