The ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, 10 November 2026, at London’s Roundhouse.
Why is Anna Godas receiving the award?
The award recognises an outstanding contribution to documentary’s art or craft. The Grierson Trust’s Board selects the recipient at its discretion, so the Trustees’ Award is distinct from competitive categories that recognise an individual film or programme. Godas is being recognised for work spanning more than two decades in bringing documentaries to audiences and helping develop projects through distribution and production.
Godas said she had spent her career helping “great true stories get seen” and described the award as recognition of everyone at Dogwoof. She also voiced concern that the range of stories being backed is narrowing. Business Doc Europe reported her statement.
Who is Anna Godas, and what does Dogwoof do?
Godas is Dogwoof’s CEO and co-founder. According to Dogwoof’s biography, she led the creation of the company’s international sales division and production arm. The company describes its goal as building an integrated studio devoted to true stories. Godas was born in Barcelona and holds an Executive MBA, a master’s degree in Film Production and a master’s degree in Screenwriting.

Which documentaries has Dogwoof worked on?
Dogwoof has funded or distributed documentaries including 20 Days in Mariupol, Navalny, No Other Land, Free Solo, Apollo 11, Fire of Love, All That Breathes, The Act of Killing and Blackfish. The company’s role varies by title; the announcement groups these as films it funded or distributed rather than assigning one role to each.
Dogwoof reports that it has backed 37 Academy Award-nominated documentaries, including seven winners, and five BAFTA-winning films. Those are company-reported figures, not independently audited totals. Business Doc Europe’s report of the announcement says Dogwoof has been associated with 20 Grierson Award-winning films.
What are the Grierson Awards?
Also known as the British Documentary Awards, the Grierson Awards recognise documentaries from Britain and abroad that make a significant contribution to the genre and demonstrate quality, integrity, creativity, originality and excellence. They commemorate Scottish documentary filmmaker John Grierson (1898–1972). The Trustees’ Award has a separate focus on an individual’s outstanding contribution to documentary’s art or craft.
The Trust’s 2025 winners announcement named editor Rupert Houseman as that year’s Trustees’ Award recipient, recognising his body of documentary work and commitment to developing editing talent. That precedent illustrates the award’s career-contribution remit; it is not a film-category prize.
