Yes—YouTube can recommend a livestream to people who have not watched your channel before. Its public guidance describes recommendations as personalized and based on how viewers respond to content; it does not say that broadcasting continuously for 24 hours a day earns a special boost. A stream’s eligibility for recommendations is not a promise that it will appear to any particular viewer.
How YouTube recommendations apply to livestreams
YouTube says its system tries to find relevant content for each viewer and does not favor a particular video format. Its recommendation guidance explicitly includes live streams alongside Shorts, long videos, and posts when describing how it understands viewer interests. Preferences vary: a viewer may be more interested in one format than another.
Recommendations are personalized using signals such as a viewer’s watch and search history, and YouTube says content performance matters. It also describes using fresh performance data for each individual video rather than relying only on a channel’s past results. These general principles mean a livestream can be recommended, including to a non-subscriber, but they do not predict whether a particular stream will be surfaced.

Does streaming 24/7 help a channel grow?
The official guidance reviewed does not compare recommendation reach for continuous broadcasts with shorter livestreams, and it does not establish 24/7 duration itself as a ranking signal. There is no basis here for claiming either an automatic boost or an algorithmic penalty for staying live around the clock.
Continuous availability may make a stream accessible at more times, but that is different from proving that YouTube recommends it more. Audience interest, competition, timing, and how individual viewers respond remain important. Treat 24/7 uptime as a programming or availability choice, not a recommendation shortcut.

How to check whether new viewers find your livestream
Use your own analytics rather than assuming that continuous uptime caused a change. In YouTube Studio, open Analytics, select the Content tab, and use the Live view. The available reports can show impressions, impressions click-through rate, average view duration, and traffic sources, including Suggested videos.
- Check discovery: Look at impressions and traffic sources to see whether Suggested videos or other sources brought viewers to the stream.
- Check the response: Read click-through rate alongside average view duration. A thumbnail click alone does not show that the stream held a viewer’s interest.
- Compare carefully: When evaluating a change, compare streams with similar topics and audiences. Include duration, impressions, click-through rate, average view duration, traffic source, and new versus returning viewers. This is a useful experiment framework, not proof that duration caused the result.
YouTube describes discovery as a funnel: packaging can affect whether someone chooses a video, while viewing behavior and satisfaction also matter. The Live analytics documentation explains the metrics and traffic-source reports: Content tab analytics tips.

What creators can do to reach new viewers
Focus on whether the stream is a good fit for viewers who might encounter it, rather than on hours live as a supposed ranking lever. YouTube’s audience-development guidance recommends improving titles and thumbnails, making content for a wider audience, collaborating with creators, and covering trends or seasonal events. It also says viewers who return regularly are more likely to be recommended more of a channel’s videos in the future.
- Make the title and thumbnail accurately communicate the stream’s subject and appeal.
- Choose a topic that can interest viewers beyond the existing subscriber base, without misrepresenting the content.
- Consider collaborations or timely subjects where they genuinely fit the channel.
- Use Live analytics to see whether discovery and viewing behavior improve; do not treat a single traffic source or metric as proof of a 24/7 effect.

Keeping a YouTube stream live
If you are deciding how to deliver a prerecorded programme continuously, keep the operational question separate from the recommendation question: the method used to stay live does not establish that YouTube will recommend the broadcast. YouTube lists mobile, webcam, and encoder approaches for going live; webcam streaming from a computer requires a computer with a webcam. Its setup guidance is at YouTube live streaming tips.
