Streamlabs says, “If your device locks, the stream will end.” Wi-Fi-only avoids using cellular data; it does not keep the phone awake, powered, connected, or the app running continuously.
What Wi-Fi-only streaming does—and does not—mean
Streamlabs recommends Wi-Fi-only streaming in its mobile-game guidance to reduce the risk of unexpected mobile-data charges. That recommendation concerns the network connection, not continuous operation. A Wi-Fi connection can carry a YouTube broadcast without cellular data, but it cannot prevent interruptions if the phone locks, loses power, the app stops, or the Wi-Fi network drops. Streamlabs’ published guidance does not specify an app-enforced maximum broadcast duration, so there is no documented basis here for claiming a particular time cap.
Streamlabs documents YouTube as a supported destination in its mobile setup flow. That establishes that a phone can be used to start a YouTube broadcast; it is not a promise that the phone will run unattended around the clock. The guidance reviewed here does not establish reliable 24/7 mobile operation or a way to bypass the lock-screen limitation. Streamlabs’ mobile-game streaming guidance states the lock-screen limitation directly.
Start a YouTube stream from Streamlabs Mobile
- Check YouTube eligibility. Your channel must be enabled for live streaming. Streamlabs’ phone guide says the account must be phone-verified and that initial enablement has a 24-hour waiting period. YouTube’s current guidance says a channel must be verified, must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and that first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance for your account’s current status.
- Connect YouTube in Streamlabs Mobile. Follow the app’s setup flow to connect your YouTube account and configure the broadcast. Streamlabs describes creating a YouTube event in the app or selecting an existing active event.
- Choose YouTube and go live. Use the app’s Go Live flow and select YouTube. Keep the device unlocked while streaming; Streamlabs says a locked device ends the stream.
- Monitor the broadcast. Wi-Fi-only does not protect against router, ISP, power, or app interruptions. If the stream must remain live, plan how someone will detect and respond to a break rather than treating a phone broadcast as unattended playout.
Streamlabs’ setup instructions are in How to Live Stream on YouTube from Phone. Their stated 24-hour first-time activation delay is about enabling live streaming, not a maximum stream length or a 24/7 mode.

Network Boost is not a Wi-Fi-only solution
Streamlabs Network Boost is described as combining more than one internet connection—for example, Wi-Fi and cellular data—to improve connection reliability. That makes it different from a strict Wi-Fi-only setup. Streamlabs’ support article says it requires Streamlabs Mobile, an active Streamlabs Ultra or Ultra+ subscription, and access to more than one connection. See Streamlabs Network Boost guidance for its requirements. It does not change the documented need to keep the phone unlocked.
Mobile app versus encoder for a continuous feed

For the encoder route, start with YouTube’s encoder setup guide. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours. Its guidance identifies a workflow category, not a guarantee that every encoder configuration will run without interruption.

Plan separately for YouTube’s live archive
YouTube says it can automatically archive a live stream if it is less than 12 hours. A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all; YouTube says this applies to encoder, webcam, and mobile streams. This is an archive limitation, not evidence that YouTube automatically stops a live broadcast at 12 hours. If you need a recording of a longer broadcast, arrange a separate local recording or other archive path. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive as a backup.
