The episode’s reported events show her trying to protect Mike while taking dangerous steps inside Konstantin’s circle. The headline framing that she is “in love with Mike” is an interpretation of those loyalties, not a verified direct quote from actor Emma Laird.
What the headline means
CBR’s July 1, 2024 headline, “’Iris Is in Love With Mike’: Mayor of Kingstown Star Reveals Her Loyalties,” frames Iris’s actions in Season 3 as signs of romantic feeling. The accessible coverage does not establish that Emma Laird said those exact words in an interview. It is more accurate to treat the phrase as the headline’s interpretation of Iris’s loyalty and risk-taking.
The relevant events take place in Season 3, Episode 5, titled “Iris.” A June 30, 2024 recap by MEAWW reports that Iris tells Mike her involvement with Konstantin is meant to protect him. That explanation makes her allegiance to Mike clear, even as her methods leave her exposed.
Why Iris’s actions look like loyalty to Mike
According to MEAWW’s recap, Iris refuses Ian’s suggestion that she wear a wire because she believes Konstantin would discover it and kill her. Mike gives her a burner phone, and she later uses it to pass him information about Konstantin’s alliance with the Aryan Brotherhood. Those choices put her at risk while helping Mike understand the threat around him.

They support a reading of Iris as deeply loyal to Mike. They do not, on their own, prove that every move is motivated by romance: protecting someone and surviving a dangerous situation can overlap.
Why her position is more complicated than a simple love story
Iris also works to earn Konstantin’s confidence, and the recap reports that she kisses him. Her closeness to Konstantin sits alongside her effort to pass information to Mike. She is navigating a perilous position, not making a straightforward public declaration of romantic intent.

The contrast matters: Iris’s actions can be read as romantic devotion to Mike, but they can also be understood as loyalty, protection, and strategic survival. The episode account supports both the strength of her connection to Mike and the danger and deception surrounding it; it does not settle the question of what she feels in definitive terms.

The cited coverage does not confirm that Mike is in love with Iris or that the two become a couple. In a July 29, 2024 article about Season 3, Episode 9, MEAWW reports that Iris warns Mike that Milo may still be alive and that Mike lets her stay with him for the night. The article describes Iris’s love as apparent but says Mike’s feelings are unclear.

Mike’s concern and offer of shelter show that he is protective of Iris; they are not proof of reciprocal romantic love. The same article notes that fans differ in how they read the relationship, including whether they expect the pair to become romantic or see their bond as platonic. Fan speculation is not confirmation of the show’s direction.

What viewers can reasonably conclude
- Iris tells Mike she is involved with Konstantin to protect him and passes him information despite the danger.
- Her work to gain Konstantin’s trust, including the reported kiss, makes her position conflicted rather than a simple declaration of love.
- The available coverage supports describing Iris as loyal to Mike and interpreting her actions as signs of love, but it does not verify a direct Emma Laird quote or establish that Mike returns those feelings.
