Spoilers for the 2025 film and earlier franchise entries. Yes. The 2025 I Know What You Did Last Summer has a mid-credits scene: Julie James visits Karla Wilson, her friend from I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998), with a warning that the danger may not be over. It teases a continuation, but does not confirm another film.
What happens in the mid-credits scene?
After the renewed Southport killings, Karla sees a news report. Julie then arrives at Karla’s home and asks for her help with the danger ahead. The two women were survivors together in the 1998 sequel, so the scene reconnects Julie with a familiar ally rather than introducing a new character.
TV Insider reports that Julie gives Karla a photograph from their Bahamas trip. Karla’s face has been crossed out, and the back of the photograph bears the message “IT’S NOT OVER.” TV Insider’s scene explanation describes the image and threat.
Who is Karla Wilson?
Karla, played by Brandy Norwood, is Julie’s college roommate and friend in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998). Her appearance gives the new film a direct link to that earlier sequel. Vanity Fair’s interview with writer-director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson identifies Brandy’s credits-scene appearance and her connection to Julie.

- When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they?re forced to confront the truth: someone knows what they did last summer?and is hell-bent on revenge. As they are stalked by a killer, they turn to survivors of the legendary 1997 Southport Massacre for help.
Does the scene confirm a sequel?
No. Julie’s warning and request for help point toward more danger, but they leave the next threat and any future events unresolved. The scene is a tease, not an announcement that a sequel has been approved. TIME quotes Robinson saying, “If the audience shows up and people love this movie, we would love to make more”—a conditional expression of interest, not confirmation of a production. TIME’s ending explainer discusses the setup and the sequel question.

The main plot follows five friends who conceal their involvement in a fatal car accident. A year later, a killer stalks them, and they turn to survivors of the 1997 Southport killings for help. That legacy-character connection makes Julie and Karla’s reunion a continuation of the franchise’s history, even as the new story introduces a different group of friends. Sony’s official film page summarizes the premise, while Netflix Tudum’s film overview describes the movie as positioned between a sequel and a reboot.
