In a 2026 Variety interview, he discussed the viral “Smoking Ben” image without saying whether he currently smokes. The title’s relationship premise is also outdated: Affleck and Jennifer Lopez separated, and Lopez was reported in 2026 as saying she was happy on her own.
What Ben Affleck said about the “Smoking Ben” image
Variety asked Affleck about the image that became the “Smoking Ben” meme. He replied, “That’s right. That’s how I was feeling. Does anyone have any idea what I had to deal with by 11 a.m. that morning?” The comment describes how he felt when the photograph was taken; it is not a statement about whether he smokes now. Read the 2026 Variety interview.
A photograph, even one that clearly shows someone smoking at the time, cannot establish that person’s present-day habit. Nor do reports about past efforts to quit establish whether Affleck currently smokes. The evidence here supports neither a “yes” nor a “no.”
Are Affleck and Lopez back together?
No. The “back with Jennifer Lopez” framing does not match the reported timeline. Variety describes their reunion and another breakup in 2024. Its 2026 profile characterizes that sequence as “a romantic reunion with Jennifer Lopez and a breakup once more in 2024.”

Did Lopez’s health-conscious lifestyle affect Affleck’s smoking?
The reviewed reporting does not establish that Lopez’s lifestyle changed Affleck’s smoking, or that it had any effect on his behavior. Calling Lopez a “health nut” and treating that as an explanation for Affleck’s habits would go beyond what these sources show.

Variety’s 2026 interview is directly relevant because Affleck addressed the smoking meme, but it does not confirm his current smoking status. A separate GQ interview published October 6, 2026, covers other aspects of his life and does not report whether he smokes. Read the GQ interview.
