Yes. A PC and monitor left on around the clock use electricity, which can increase a rented household’s bill. The amount depends on the setup’s actual power use and the tariff and billing rules for the flat; there is no single rupee estimate that applies across India. Measure the whole setup at the wall, then calculate its extra energy use and apply the relevant charges on your own electricity bill.
How to estimate the extra electricity use
Measure the complete setup
Use a suitable plug-in electricity usage meter between the outlet and the equipment. Measure the PC and any display that stays on; the power supply’s rated wattage is not a measurement of what the system actually draws. Record energy use during representative YouTube playback, ordinary idle time, and sleep if those modes occur during the day. An accumulated reading over a representative period is more useful than a single instantaneous watt reading when consumption varies.

One billing unit commonly corresponds to one kilowatt-hour (kWh). If your measured average is in watts, calculate:

Monthly energy (kWh) = average watts × hours per day × days ÷ 1,000.
For 24 hours a day over a 30-day month, the calculation simplifies to average watts × 0.72. This is a conversion rule, not an assumed PC wattage. If your meter reports accumulated kWh directly, use its reading for the measured period and scale it cautiously to the billing period.

How to turn extra units into a bill estimate
Check the electricity bill for the utility or DISCOM, domestic consumer category, billing period, energy-charge slabs, and any applicable subsidy or adjustments. Multiply the additional kWh by the relevant marginal energy charge as a first estimate. The actual bill difference may not equal a simple flat-rate multiplication: tariffs may use telescopic slabs, and bills can also include fixed charges, electricity duty, subsidies, or other adjustments.
India has no single residential retail tariff suitable for every rented flat. State and union-territory regulators set retail tariffs, and State Governments may provide subsidies. Use the tariff applicable to your own connection and billing period, not a rate quoted for another state. What makes the result different from one flat to another
- PC workload: Playback, idle time, and sleep can have different power draws. Measure the modes the machine actually spends time in.
- Display use: Include the monitor if it remains on. Whether it dims or sleeps affects total consumption.
- Time in each mode: A daily average depends on how long the system plays video, idles, or sleeps.
- Household consumption: Existing monthly use and the applicable tariff slabs affect the marginal cost of additional units.
- Local billing details: Utility, jurisdiction, billing period, subsidy eligibility, duties, and other adjustments can all affect the bill.
There is no established universal wattage or named statistic for a PC continuously streaming YouTube in an Indian rented flat. Without a measured draw and the applicable tariff assumptions, a specific monthly rupee amount would be guesswork.
