The Academy says the category recognizes artistic excellence in rap albums, with the award going to the artist, producer, and engineer or mixer responsible for more than 50 percent of the album’s playing time. Its 2025 winners list separately describes eligibility as albums containing greater than 75 percent playing time of new rap recordings. Those are distinct category and eligibility descriptions, not interchangeable thresholds. The Academy’s full 2025 winners and nominees list gives the eligibility wording.
