The reported change is a U.S. streaming-library deal, not a new Doctor Who season or a return to BBC broadcast: AMC+ was reported to add the revived series from 2005–2022 on June 11, 2026. The catch is that the deal covers seasons 1–13, not the newer Ncuti Gatwa era.
What the reported deal includes
Reports from The Hollywood Reporter, TV Insider and Deadline describe AMC+ as the new U.S. streaming home for the 2005–2022 revival. TV Insider and Deadline put the collection at 13 seasons and 176 episodes, including specials. These are details reported by those outlets on May 14, 2026; an accessible BBC announcement was not available to independently confirm them.
The reported start date was June 11, 2026, which has passed. The launch report does not establish whether the episodes remain in AMC+’s current catalog, so check the service’s listing before subscribing or planning a watch-through.
The catch: the Ncuti Gatwa seasons are outside this deal
The reported AMC+ acquisition does not include the newer seasons starring Ncuti Gatwa. That distinction matters: “13 seasons” refers to the earlier revival seasons, not every modern episode of the show. The Hollywood Reporter noted that the latest seasons were excluded; Your Nerd Side separately reported that the Gatwa era remained tied to Disney+ outside the UK, but that is not confirmation of current contract terms or availability.

Where U.S. viewers should look
For the older revival, AMC+ was the service named in the 2026 reports. The coverage identifies a U.S. deal only; it does not establish availability in the UK or any other territory. Nor does the launch reporting confirm present subscription requirements, plan prices or today’s catalog status.

- Current availability: verify that the seasons you want are still listed where you live.
Does this mean Doctor Who is returning to the BBC?
Not on the evidence reported here. The story concerns U.S. streaming rights for BBC-owned programming; it does not announce a new production, commission, or BBC broadcast return. The original headline can therefore mislead if “returning to the BBC” is read as a change to the show’s production or broadcast home.
