Nick Reiner was arrested on December 14, 2025, after his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their Brentwood home. Prosecutors later charged him with murder, and a grand jury indicted him in August 2026. Those are allegations, not a finding of guilt. What happened, and when was Nick Reiner arrested?
On December 14, 2025, Los Angeles Police Department officers assigned to the West Los Angeles Division responded to a death investigation at a home on the 200 block of South Chadbourne Avenue in Brentwood. LAPD said Nick Reiner was located and arrested at approximately 9:15 p.m. The department announced the arrest the following day in its December 15, 2025 statement.
Rob Reiner was 78 and Michele Singer Reiner was 70, according to the Associated Press’s December 15, 2025 report. The county’s charging announcement described Nick Reiner as 32 at the time.

What is the current reported court status?
The Associated Press reported on September 15, 2026, that Reiner had pleaded not guilty twice. That is the latest plea information established by the dated reporting cited here; it should not be treated as confirmation of any later court appearance. No next hearing date is established in the cited sources.

No. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced on September 15, 2026, that it would not seek the death penalty. The Associated Press reported that if Reiner is convicted, the maximum potential sentence is life in prison without the possibility of parole. That is a possible sentence, not one imposed by a court.
