That was the status then—not the latest outcome.
Was Doctor Odyssey renewed or canceled?
ABC canceled Doctor Odyssey after its first season. TVLine and Variety reported the cancellation on June 28, 2025. TVLine’s report and Variety’s report are the later update; the May comments about ongoing creative discussions should not be read as evidence that ABC is still deciding.

In a May 2025 interview with TheWrap, Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich said, “We’re continuing to have creative conversations with Ryan about what a next chapter would look like,” adding, “It’s an ongoing conversation.” TheWrap interview described an unresolved conversation at that time. The cancellation reports came later, on June 28.

How many people watched Doctor Odyssey?
The published audience figures refer to different measures and periods, so they are not interchangeable:
| Figure | What it measures | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| 7.59 million viewers | Total viewers after three days across ABC, Hulu, Hulu on Disney+, and digital platforms for the premiere. ABC said this made it the network’s best drama premiere in four years. | ABC / Disney General Entertainment Press, 2024 |
| 13.54 million viewers | Total cross-platform viewers to date, as reported by ABC. The October 4, 2024 release described this as a 228% lift over the initial live same-day audience of 4.13 million. | ABC / Disney General Entertainment Press, October 4, 2024 |
| 4.8 million average weekly viewers | Season 1 average with delayed playback, as reported in TVLine’s cancellation coverage. | TVLine, June 28, 2025 |
The first two numbers are launch-period figures from ABC’s October 2024 announcement, not current audience totals. The 4.8 million figure is TVLine’s reported season average, not an ABC figure in the cited material. ABC’s launch announcement provides the premiere metrics.
