Spoilers for Doctor Odyssey Season 1, Episode 5. In “Halloween Week,” a costume contest and beach treasure hunt give way to a cave rescue and a zombie-like illness among select passengers. The illness is not contagious, and the episode’s two medical crises have separate causes: the beach guest is freed without an amputation, while Tristan is poisoned by carbon monoxide from decorative Halloween lamps.

What happens in “Halloween Week”?
The costume contest sets the tone
The Odyssey marks Halloween with a high-stakes costume contest. Max and Tristan argue over costumes, including Jack Sparrow and Neptune, before passengers head ashore for a beach treasure hunt. ABC’s synopsis frames the episode’s turn: “It’s Halloween on The Odyssey, featuring a high-stakes costume contest; but when a zombie-like illness plagues select passengers, the festivities take a dark turn.”
A beach rescue nearly ends in amputation
The treasure hunt becomes an emergency when a guest gets trapped in a cave, her arm wedged between rocks as the tide rises. Max and Avery go to help. With the arm stuck, the guest’s wife agrees to an amputation, but Avery finds another way: she dislocates the guest’s elbow and frees the arm. The rescue builds toward a drastic choice, then resolves without the arm being sawn off.

The “zombie” illness is not an outbreak
Back aboard the ship, select passengers develop zombie-like symptoms. The episode’s illness is described as non-contagious; it is not a literal zombie transformation or a spreading infectious outbreak. That distinction matters because the eerie Halloween presentation makes the medical problem look more like a horror scenario than a conventional contagion.
Tristan’s poisoning has a separate cause
Tristan’s collapse is another medical emergency, but it is not part of the passengers’ zombie-like illness. His decorative Halloween lamps leak gas, causing carbon monoxide poisoning. He recovers and rejoins the celebration on the dance floor by the episode’s end.
