No. A YouTube music copyright claim does not automatically take all ad revenue from a livestream or its replay. A Content ID claim can monetize, track or block a video; when it monetizes, the rights holder may receive revenue, and a YouTube Partner Program creator may be able to share revenue with the music publisher. The result can vary by country or region, and no universal revenue split is guaranteed.
What a music Content ID claim can do
YouTube says copyright claimants can apply one of three policies: monetize, track or block. A tracked or monetized video can remain viewable with the claim active; a block policy can make it unavailable. Policies may differ by territory, so a video’s outcome can vary by country or region. YouTube identifies music as the most common category of claim for which the monetize policy is applied. YouTube’s explanation of copyright claims describes these policies.
- Monetize: Ads may run, and the rights holder may receive revenue. A creator in the YouTube Partner Program may be able to share revenue with the music publisher, but that does not mean every creator receives a share.
- Track: The claimant tracks viewership; the video can remain available.
- Block: The claimant can make the video unavailable, potentially only in some territories.
A Content ID claim is not the same as a copyright removal request or a copyright strike. The claim details in YouTube Studio are the place to check the claimant’s policy and the territories it affects.
Live enforcement is different from a claim on the replay
YouTube scans livestreams for third-party content, including another live broadcast. If it detects such content, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn the streamer. If the content continues, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. This can happen while the broadcast is live; it is separate from a Content ID claim on an archived replay.

YouTube says Content ID claims on livestreams are made after the stream ends, if the creator chose to archive it. In its guidance on copyright issues with live streams, YouTube states: “Content ID claims are only made after you complete your live streams, if you decide to archive the video.” That timing does not prevent YouTube from interrupting a live broadcast when it detects third-party content.
If you have a licence, ask about allowlisting
A licence does not necessarily stop live interruptions. YouTube advises creators who have licensed music to ask the rights owner to add their channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube warns that a stream may still be interrupted without allowlisting, even when the creator has a licence. Confirm with the owner that the licence covers the livestream, any archived replay, the relevant territories and the channel’s use of the music.

What happens to ad revenue during a dispute
If you dispute or appeal a claim, ads may continue to run while the revenue is held separately during review. YouTube says that once the dispute is resolved, the held revenue is paid to the appropriate party. The timing of the hold depends on when you act:

- If you do nothing, revenue held after the claim is released to the claimant after five days.
- If you dispute within five days of the claim, the hold starts from the date the claim was placed.
- If you dispute more than five days after the claim, the hold starts from the date you dispute it.
Do not dispute a claim unless you have a good-faith basis, such as rights that cover the use at issue. YouTube does not mediate copyright disputes. An invalid dispute can lead the copyright owner to request removal; a valid removal request results in a strike. Review the claim details and your rights before disputing. YouTube explains the process in its guide to disputing a Content ID claim.
Creator Music does not provide a livestream revenue-sharing route
YouTube’s stated usage requirements exclude livestreams and Shorts from videos using eligible Creator Music revenue-sharing tracks. Creator Music terms and track restrictions can change, so check the current requirements for a specific track rather than assuming a licence or revenue-sharing option covers a livestream. See YouTube’s Creator Music usage requirements.
