Nick Apostolides made Leon Kennedy feel older in Resident Evil Requiem by changing how he speaks and moves: slower cadence, less spring in his step, and a rougher voice. In a spoiler-free interview with MobileSyrup, the actor describes a more weathered Leon whose increased brutality comes from necessity, not hatred.
How Apostolides changed Leon’s voice and movement
Apostolides approached Requiem’s Leon as a man carrying more years and pressure. Rather than simply making him sound tougher, he adjusted the performance’s rhythm and physical presence. “I slowed down his cadence a lot with his speech and his body, so his movements are a little less springy,” he told MobileSyrup.
He also placed the voice farther back in his throat and added some gravel. The combination gives Leon a more grounded quality: the change is audible in the voice and visible in the way he moves.
Why Leon’s physicality is more brutal
Apostolides says he wanted Leon to be “a little bit more brutal,” but not because the character has become hateful. In his interpretation, Leon acts with greater force because the danger is immediate and time is short. Apostolides summed up the motivation as “brutality out of necessity.”

He describes Leon’s fights as practical calculations: “And so he’s got to end that fight as quickly as possible, or he might not be in the next mission.” That framing makes the violence part of the character’s survival-minded response to higher stakes, rather than a change in his underlying disposition.
What performance capture adds to the role
For Apostolides, performance capture involves more than delivering dialogue. The physical acting and non-verbal effort matter too: movement, exertion, and the sounds a character makes while pushing through a scene all contribute to the portrayal. He also notes that dangerous stunts are handled by professionals, distinguishing an actor’s performance work from the most hazardous physical tasks.

Leon and Grace as co-leads
Requiem pairs Leon with Grace Ashcroft in a co-led story. Apostolides describes the contrast between Leon, an experienced action-oriented character, and Grace, who has fewer resources and less experience. He praised Angela Sant’Albano’s authenticity as Grace and said the actors watched each other work and learned from one another during performance capture. Their collaboration informed the relationship between two characters approaching danger from different positions.
Returning to Raccoon City
Apostolides said he was excited to return to Raccoon City and the RPD. He learned about the story’s direction roughly two years before the March 2026 interview. The location carries particular weight for a series veteran, but the interview focuses on his excitement and performance rather than revealing plot details.

How humanitarian work informs Apostolides’s acting
Apostolides connects his humanitarian work with The Fixers to the range of real-life experiences he can draw on as an actor. He said he had done that work on and off for about four to five years and estimated that he had “built projects in, I think, over 30 countries at this point.” Those are his recollections and estimate from the interview, not independently verified totals.
His other game roles
Alongside Leon, Apostolides discussed voicing Zeke, Frost, and Velimir in Warframe. He described Digital Extremes as a collaborative studio. The interview offers this as another part of his games work, separate from the performance choices he made for Requiem.
