Dispatch is a complete eight-episode superhero workplace comedy about making difficult calls—both in conversation and on the emergency map. Its cinematic scenes, character-focused writing and choices that feed into hero assignments give it the rhythm of a TV season. The trade-off is limited freeform exploration: play alternates between scripted story scenes, dispatch strategy and quick-time events rather than letting you roam a large world. If you want a character-led interactive drama with management decisions, that balance is the appeal; if you want constant direct control, it may feel hands-off.
What is Dispatch?
Made by AdHoc Studio, Dispatch is set in modern Los Angeles. You play Robert Robertson, the superhero Mecha Man. After his mech suit is destroyed, Robert takes a job as a dispatcher, overseeing a team of former supervillains who are being given a chance at rehabilitation. You manage the roster, navigate workplace relationships, help rebuild Robert’s suit and make choices that shape relationships and story outcomes. PlayStation’s official listing and the Steam store page describe the game and its premise.
How does it play?
Dispatching heroes is the management core
Emergencies appear on a strategy map, and you decide which available heroes to send. Their availability and performance create trade-offs: a choice that suits one call can leave the roster less able to respond elsewhere. You are not simply watching a workplace drama unfold; you are making operational decisions within it.
Choices and mission results connect
Dialogue and other story choices affect relationships and the options available in dispatch, while mission performance can feed back into the narrative. Xbox Wire’s March 26, 2026 feature describes this link between story choices, dispatch options and mission outcomes. It is the game’s clearest bridge between interactive management and its TV-like storytelling.

The interaction is focused, not open-world
Much of the game is tightly scripted. You move between cinematic character scenes, hero assignments and quick-time events, with little open-ended exploration. PC Gamer praised the animation, voice performances, humor and consequential choices, but its reviewer also wanted more interaction and fewer quick-time events. That is one reviewer’s assessment, not a universal verdict; the review records a PC setup of an RTX 4090, Intel i9-13900K and 32GB of RAM, and marks the game Steam Deck Verified. Read the PC Gamer review for that review’s full context.
Does the episodic format work?
The finished game has eight episodes. Its PC release date on Steam was October 22, 2025, and episodes seven and eight launched on November 12, 2025, completing the season, according to Game Developer. The episode structure supports the prestige-TV comparison: the story has room for an ensemble cast and workplace dynamics, while choices and dispatch assignments give the player a role in how events unfold.

Game Developer also reported rising concurrent-player peaks on Steam as episodes arrived: nearly 13,000 when episodes one and two released, 66,000 during the following episode-release week, 131,000 at the release of episodes five and six, and 220,060 when the final two episodes launched. These are reported concurrent-player peaks, not sales or unique-player totals.
Who is likely to enjoy Dispatch?
- A good fit: players who enjoy cinematic, character-led stories, workplace comedy, consequential choices and light strategic management.
- A possible mismatch: players who expect frequent hands-on action, broad exploration or a large world to roam. The game’s interaction is concentrated in story decisions, dispatch assignments and quick-time events.
The combination is also reflected in the game’s reception on Steam: on October 4, 2026, its English-language reviews were classified as “Overwhelmingly Positive,” with 97% positive among 108,689 reviews. That is a platform snapshot, and review totals and percentages can change.

On March 26, 2026, co-creative director Dennis Lenart explained the character-led approach to Xbox Wire: “We built every character as a real, imperfect person first—someone ordinary and recognizable. You should be able to look at any of them and think, ‘I know someone like that.’ Their superpowers are just an extra layer, which is why they feel so relatable.”
