The premise has changed since the film’s 2025 reveal at Destination D23. That announcement described an awkward teenage boy and his Type-A mother; Disney’s current official materials instead identify the lead as Billie, an impulsive and unconventional teenage girl, and her mother Alice. Who is making the film?
Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand direct, with Josie Trinidad as co-director. Roy Conli and Yvett Merino are producers. Disney identifies Hexed as the 65th animated feature from Walt Disney Animation Studios.
In a June 16, 2026 statement published by Disney UK, director Jason Hand said: “Hexe is a place where Billie begins to feel seen for the first time in her life,” and described her journey as one of self-discovery that reveals a connection to magic and long-held family secrets. Disney also says the short Lilo & Scratch will debut in theaters with Hexed.
